894 dengue cases in New Delhi over last week

New Delhi : Dengue cases have seen a surge in New Delhi with a total of 894 cases in the city the past week — a rise of 40 percent. The week also logged 85 cases of malaria and 61 cases of chikungunya.

According to a report compiled by three corporations, the total number of dengue cases stood at 3,109. The total number of malaria and chikungunya cases stood at 954 and 533, respectively.

Of the 884 dengue cases registered this week, 288 cases were from areas under the corporations while 606 cases were from other states. For malaria, 47 cases were from areas under the corporations.

The report entails that 1,465 cases of the total of 3,109 were residents of Delhi. In fact, the disease has almost shaped into an epidemic, especially during the last month which saw 761 Delhi residents suffering from dengue.

1,66,586 households have been reported as the breeding ground for mosquitoes and the civic bodies have said that awareness initiatives are being taken up to prevent the spread of vector-borne diseases.

The report documents that 11,87,494 households have been sprayed by the corporation bodies and around 1,37,504 legal notices have already been issued relating to the matter.

Even though Karnataka recorded the lowest number of Covid deaths in April since the virus struck first in 2020, the state is recording a rise in the positivity rate (1.50 per cent). Five people died from the Covid infections in April as per the statistics released by the state health department. In March, the positivity rate stood around 0.53 per cent. In the first week of April it came down to 0.38 per cent, second week registered 0.56 per cent, third week it rose to 0.79 per cent and by end of April the Covid positivity rate touched 1.19 per cent.
