New Delhi : On the eve of World Osteoporosis Day, doctors pointed out at an alarming rise in the number of osteoporosis patients. Almost every other person over the age of 50 years is likely to suffer from osteoporosis, they said.

Bone weakening is a common problem associated with aging. In most people, sometime during your 30s, your bone mass will begin to gradually decline. For women, that bone loss can significantly speed up during the first 10 years after menopause.

Many are under the mistaken impression that a prescription drug combined with megadose calcium supplements is the answer to strong and healthy bones. 

One important strategy for maintaining healthy bones is to eat the right kind of foods. A diet full of processed foods will produce biochemical and metabolic conditions in your body that will decrease your bone density, so avoiding processed foods is definitely the first step in the right direction.

According to International Osteoporosis Foundation, one in three women and one in five men aged 50 years and over will suffer an osteoporotic fracture.
 
Osteoporosis makes bones weak and fragile so much so that they can break even after a minor fall, a bump, a sneeze, or a sudden movement. Fractures caused by osteoporosis can be life-threatening and a major cause of pain and long-term disability.
 
“Old people may not be fit for surgery and therefore, suffer pain forever,” said Dr Udai Prakash, director and specialist in joint replacement, Udai Omni Hospital for Advanced Orthopaedics and Trauma.
 
Osteoporosis is however, preventable and starting early is helpful.”The best thing that can be done to prevent osteoporosis is to exercise regularly as it helps keep the bone strength intact. Adequate sun exposure and calcium rich foods can help prevent it,” said Dr Rajkiran Dudam, consultant Rheumatologist, Star Hospitals.

Consuming cucumber juice can be really beneficial for relievingacid reflux because it is highly nutritious as it provides your body with both fibre and water which is needed for better digestion and has a low calorie volume. What’s more? It can also keep you full and help you avoid reaching out to junk foods!

2. Lemon water

Being rich in vitamin C and B and minerals such as phosphorus, calcium, and magnesium—drinking lemon water regularly will not only help you burn fat but will resolve your digestive issues such as acidity.
