OMG!Unmarried women more concerned for SAFE SEX rather than men
A larger number of unmarried, sexually active women are now opting for safe sex. The National Family Health Survey 2015-16, conducted by the health ministry, found that the use of condoms had gone up in 10 years from 2% to 12% among sexually active unmarried women aged 15 to 49 years.
The maximum use of condoms among unmarried women was seen in the 20-24 years age group. The survey also found that three out of eight men believed contraception was “women’s business”, and that the man should not have to worry about it.
The survey also found that although the number of unmarried women using contraception has improved, three out of eight men still thought that contraception was women’s business and not their’s.
While 99% of married men and women aged 15-49 are aware of at least one contraceptive method, the idea has not translated into widespread safe sex. The survey showed that overall contraceptive prevalence rate (CPR) was just 54% among married women aged 15 to 49, and with only 10% adopting a modern contraceptive technique.
The survey showed that family planning remains to be a matter of concern, with two-thirds of currently married women aged 15-49 demanding to limit the size of families through effective methods of birth control. The contraceptive prevalence rate would increase from 54% to 66% if all currently married women who wanted to limit their children were to use a family planning method, found the survey.
