Former Brazil goalkeeper Cesar returns to Flamengo
Rio de Janeiro, Jan 30 (IANS) Former Brazil international goalkeeper Julio Cesar has returned to his former club Flamengo on a three-month contract.
The 38-year-old told a press conference that he will represent the five-time Brazilian Serie A champions during the Rio de Janeiro state championship before retiring at the end of April, reports Xinhua news agency.
“There’s no chance of extending my contract beyond these three months,” said Cesar, who parted ways with Portugal’s Benfica last November.
“I’m not interested in stealing anybody’s place. I’m here to help where possible, especially with the younger players.”
Flamengo’s current first-choice goalkeeper, Diego Alves, is recovering from a fractured collarbone.
Cesar played for Flamengo from 1998 to 2005 before moving to Europe, where he had spells with Chievo, Inter Milan, Queens Park Rangers and Benfica.
He played for Brazil at the 2010 and 2014 World Cups and was a part of the Inter Milan team that won the 2010 UEFA Champions League.

Speaking on Cricket Live on Star Sports, Gavaskar said, “That assault on Sheldon Cottrell in Sharjah gave him the belief to do the impossible and the confidence that he belongs here. We saw the impossible (he did with the bat) the other day as well. There’s no twitching or touching the pads (which shows a batter’s nervousness) when he bats in the death overs. He just waits for the ball to be delivered and plays his shots. He’s got all the shots in the book, but most importantly his temperament to stay cool in a crisis is brilliant.”
Gavaskar has also nicknamed the 28-year-old cricketer the ‘ice-man’ and lauded Tewatia’s ability to remain unruffled during the tense moments.
