Pune girl tops CDS exams

Pune, Feb 2 (IANS) Pune law student Shruti V. Shrikhande has emerged as the national topper among girls in the Combined Defence Services (CDS) Exams.

“It was my dream to join the armed forces so I took up the CDS and cleared it,” an excited Shruti told media persons on Friday, after the results were announced by the Union Public Service Commission on Thursday.

An alumna of the Army Public School here, Shruti is the daughter of an Army officer, Brigader Vinod Shrikhande, and Ujjwala, and is currently studying law at the ILS Law College in the city.

She is now all set to join the Officers Training Academy, Chennai, for the course commencing in April.

The CDS exam was held for the OTA’s 107th Short Service Commission for Men (non-technical) course and the 21st Short Service Commission for Women (non-technical) in which 232 candidates, including 51 women, from all over India were declared successful.

Brig. Shrikhande, who has served in several assignments including the Line of Control and International Borders, said coming from an Army family his daughter was well aware of the traditions and work culture in the armed forces.

Her proud mother Ujjwala said: “Since childhood, she has been very studious and focused. We were sure that she would make it to the merit list, but were surprised when she stood first and topped the exams.”

Both her parents said she always was keen on serving the nation and the family was proud that Shruti will now join the Indian Army.

As many as six new nursing colleges to be functional in Haryana soon

Haryana Chief Secretary Sanjeev Kaushal shared that the construction work of six nursing colleges in the state will be completed soon and classes will commence in the month of July. Not only this, the new building of the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Panchkula has also completed its construction work.

Adding on to this, he shared that, till now, the classes are being held in another building, the chief secretary said while presiding over the review meeting of development projects worth more than Rs 100 crore here.

CHIEF SECRETARY REVIEWED MAJOR PROJECTS

The Chief Secretary reviewed several major projects, including power, health, medical, and technical education in the state, and directed the concerned officials to complete them within the stipulated time period.

COLLEGES UNDER CONSTRUCTION

He said that the construction of nursing colleges in Dherdu village of Kaithal, Khedi Ram Nagar village of Kurukshetra, Kheranwali village of Panchkula, Aura and Dayalpur village of Faridabad, and Sadatpur village of Rewari is under construction.

The construction work of Medical college in Koriawas in Narnaul, Medical College at Jind, Bhiwani, and Dental College at Nalhar is being completed at a fast pace. The work of the second phase of Kalpana Chawla Medical College is also undergoing.
