BJP using police to target us: AAP

New Delhi, Feb 8 (IANS) Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh on Wednesday said that the Delhi Police was unable to curb crime and was only being used by the BJP to target his party legislators.

“Delhi Police has nothing to do with crimes like murders, rapes or robbery happening in the city but is being used by the BJP to target our party,” he told media persons here.

A Delhi court last week acquitted Bhupendra Birla, father of AAP MLA Rakhi Birla, and another AAP leader Ram Pratap Goel in a gang rape case.

The victim had alleged that both Birla and Goel gang raped her on the promise to give her a ticket to contest Municipal elections.

“During the hearing of this case, the complainant herself admitted that she filed the case on being asked by the BJP and police.

“False cases have been filed against 15 of our party MLAs…one by one they have been proved wrong in the courts,” said Singh.

“The manner in which BJP and its police is torturing our party members is there for everyone to see,” he added.

Rakhi Birla said that the case against her father was an attempt by the BJP to spoil her image.

“It was on November 6, 2016, when I came to know that a woman had filed a rape case against my 60-year-old father. Later, police shockingly imposed a few serious charges against him,” she said.

“During the hearing in the court, she could not recognise my father and the case was proven false.

“This was a sad attempt to spoil the image of my family and our party but we had faith in the country’s legal system and the judgement was announced in our favour as it was a false case,” said Birla who was a minister during the first AAP government.
