Autonomous status for Jindal Global University
Sonipat, March 21 (IANS) O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) Haryana has been granted autonomous status by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under graded autonomy Regulations 2018, a spokesperson said on Wednesday.
This announcement was made by Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar in New Delhi.
JGU has become the first and only private university in Haryana and also one among the two private universities in India to be granted autonomy.
“In an endeavour to introduce a liberalised regime in the higher education sector and emphasizing linking autonomy with quality, UGC and MHRD granted autonomy to 52 universities, out of which 5 are central universities, 21 state universities, 24 deemed and two private universities,” a university spokesperson said in a statement.
“There are more than 300 private universities in India but only two have been granted this special status, one of them being O.P. Jindal Global University,” the statement read.
Naveen Jindal, Founding Chancellor, O. P. Jindal Global University said, “This feat reiterates JGU’s commitment to shaping India’s aspirations of building world-class universities through comparative and international dimensions. We are grateful to MHRD and UGC who have appreciated our endeavour.”

As many as six new nursing colleges to be functional in Haryana soon
Haryana Chief Secretary Sanjeev Kaushal shared that the construction work of six nursing colleges in the state will be completed soon and classes will commence in the month of July. Not only this, the new building of the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Panchkula has also completed its construction work.
Adding on to this, he shared that, till now, the classes are being held in another building, the chief secretary said while presiding over the review meeting of development projects worth more than Rs 100 crore here.
CHIEF SECRETARY REVIEWED MAJOR PROJECTS
The Chief Secretary reviewed several major projects, including power, health, medical, and technical education in the state, and directed the concerned officials to complete them within the stipulated time period.
COLLEGES UNDER CONSTRUCTION
He said that the construction of nursing colleges in Dherdu village of Kaithal, Khedi Ram Nagar village of Kurukshetra, Kheranwali village of Panchkula, Aura and Dayalpur village of Faridabad, and Sadatpur village of Rewari is under construction.
The construction work of Medical college in Koriawas in Narnaul, Medical College at Jind, Bhiwani, and Dental College at Nalhar is being completed at a fast pace. The work of the second phase of Kalpana Chawla Medical College is also undergoing.
