Congress’ impeachment move was attempt to weaken SC: Amit Shah

New Delhi, April 23 (IANS) BJP President Amit Shah on Monday hit out at Congress and its President Rahul Gandhi after the impeachment motion against Chief Justice Dipak Misra was rejected, accusing them of seeking to “demonize and weaken” every institution maintaining its individual identity.

“Right now, the buzzword for the Congress and their friends is ‘impeachment’. The judiciary, which is an institution that is trusted by 125 crore Indians, has invited the wrath of Congress and the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty in particular.

“I will not get into the reasons (which everybody knows) but I will say that this is a part of a larger trend to demonize and weaken every institution that seeks to maintain its individual identity and (does) not kowtow to the dynasty,” he said in a Facebook post.

Shah’s attack came hours after Rajya Sabha Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu rejected the motion on the ground that there was lack of “credible and verifiable” information on charges of “misbehaviour” against the CJI that undermined judiciary’s independence.

Claiming that the Congress has yet again taken the only path it knows – of spreading hate and divisions in society, Shah asked Gandhi and his party to “stop their theatrics and aggression at the earliest”.

“It is becoming increasingly clear that their Modi hatred is fast turning into India hatred. Blinded by disdain for the Prime Minister, they are using the choicest of words and phrases to show India in bad light,” he said.

Criticising the Congress for holding “Save Democracy” campaign the BJP chief said that it was both ironical and comical as those who do not trust the Army, the judiciary, the Supreme Court, the Election Commission, EVMs, the RBI are now saying “democracy is in danger!”

He said in the history of post-1947 India, if there is one party that has trampled over the Constitution in letter and spirit, time and again, it is the Congress, which, in different times and contexts, has the same end – to “discredit any institution that comes in the way of furthering the rule of the Dynasty”.

He cited the imposition of Emergency and the use of the Constitution’s Article 356 to sack state governments.

Shah also took a dig at Gandhi for crediting Congress first for the making of Constitution, saying it was part of “his family legacy of humiliating Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar”.
