PKL auctions: Iranian Atrachali costliest buy ever (Lead)
Mumbai, May 30 (IANS) After bagging Fazel Atrachali for a whopping Rs 1 crore, making him the costliest buy in the history of the league, Pro Kabaddi League franchise U Mumba continued to bank on Iranian talents as the side bought Abofazl Maghsodlouemahali and Hadi Tajik in the foreign players’ auction here on Wednesday.
Iranian defender Atrachali, having a base price of Rs 30 lakh, sparked off a bidding war between Jaipur Pink Panthers and the Mumbai-based franchise. However, it was the latter who bagged Atrachali.
Gujarat Fortunegiants had the option to retain the Iranian but they declined to exercise the Final Bid Match (FBM) option.
With this purchase, the Iranian also surpassed Nitin Tomar, who was till now the costliest buy in the league after being bagged by UP Yoddhas for Rs 93 lakhs in the previous year’s auctions.
Later, the Mumbai based franchise snapped up Maghsodlouemahali and Tajik for Rs 21.75 lakh and Rs 11 lakh respectively.
Atrachali’s compatriot Abozar Mohajermighani, who was the first foreign player to be auctioned, was taken by Telugu Titans for Rs 76 lakhs as the Fortunegiants once again refused to exercise their FBM option.
South Korean raider Jang Kun Lee was bought by Haryana Steelers for Rs 33 lakh. However, the Bengal Warriors utilised the FBM card to retain the 25-year-old.
Bengal also signed Bangladesh’s left cover defender Ziaur Rahman for Rs 33.25 lakhs.
Rahman’s compatriot and raider Md Zakir Hossain went to Haryana Steelers for Rs 8.4 lakh.
Jaipur Pink Panthers showed interest in Iran’s Farhad Rahimi and had almost picked him for Rs 21.5 lakhs but Telugu Titans used the FBM option to retain the right-corner defender.
Jaipur however, secured the services of South Korean Young Chang Ko and Kenya’s David Mosambayi after paying Rs 11.4 lakhs and Rs 10.2 lakhs respectively.
Gujarat signed their first player of the auction as they spent Rs 12 lakhs and Rs 17.2 lakhs to rope in Iran’s Hadi Oshtorak and South Korean Dong Geon Lee respectively.
While Patna Pirates bought South Korean all-rounder Taedeok Eom paying Rs 11.4 lakhs, another South Korean Dong Ju Hong was pocketed by Bengaluru Bulls for Rs 8 lakhs.
Nepal’s all-rounder Sanjay Shrestha was sold to Puneri Paltan for Rs 8 lakhs while South Korean Seaong Ryeol Kim went to UP Yoddhas for Rs 8.2 lakhs.
Tamil Thalaivas paid Rs 8 lakhs to bag Chan Sik Park of South Korea.

Dr. Abhishek Verma Dedicates a Shelter in Memory of His Mother, Veena Verma, at KGMU; Inaugurated by Daughter Nicolle Verma
World-renowned business tycoon Dr. Abhishek Verma has supported Foodman Vishal Singh’s Hunger-Free World mission. In memory of his mother, Late Veena Verma, who was a 3 term Rajya Sabha MP.
Dr. Verma dedicated a state-of-the-art free permanent shelter for the attendants of patients at KGMU Medical University, Lucknow, under the aegis of Vijay Shree Foundation. His daughter, Nicolle Verma, inaugurated the shelter.
During the event, Foodman Vishal Singh honored Nicolle Verma by presenting her with a memento. Mrs. Nidhi Sharma and Avantika Yadav, associated with the organization, welcomed her with garlands. Following this, Nicolle Verma distributed essential items to the attendants and also handed out fruits. She became emotional remembering her grandmother on her birth anniversary.
On this occasion, she also inaugurated the “Veena Verma Sevalaya” in memory of her grandmother, Veena Verma, to serve the attendants. She expressed, “I feel proud that my family is engaged in nation-building as well as social service. Today, in collaboration with Vijay Shree Foundation founder Foodman Vishal Singh Ji, I feel immensely proud to dedicate this shelter for the poor, helpless, and needy attendants of patients battling serious illnesses like cancer. I am honored to be associated with the Hunger-Free World Mission for humanity.”
Inspired by the continuous humanitarian service provided by Vijay Shree Foundation over the past 17 years, Nicolle Verma donated 10 lakh rupees to support the cause. The purpose of this donation is to ensure that services continue for the needy attendants of patients suffering from severe illnesses in hospitals, as facilitated by Foodman Vishal Singh.
It is noteworthy that Dr. Abhishek Verma’s family has a legacy of public and philanthropic service. They are helping millions to carry forward the values and service work of their parents.
