Juan Mata urges Man United to step up their bid for top four

London: Juan Mata, the Manchester United Midfielder today urged his team to step up their bid for a top four place.

Mata, 26, moved to Old Trafford from Chelsea in a 37.1 million pounds deal a year ago this week but was unable to help his new club finish any higher than seventh after their disappointing season under David Moyes.

It meant that United missed out on Champions League football for the first time in 19 years, and their place in the top four is once again under threat from a chasing pack after only two wins from their last six league games.

Mata warned that Van Gaal’s side are entering a decisive stage of the season as they prepare to meet bottom club Leicester City at Old Trafford Saturday, and must go on a winning streak to avoid another season of frustration.

“It’s difficult watching the games on TV every Tuesday and Wednesday. It’s the thought that we all have in our minds that we need to be back in the Champions League,” the Spaniard was quoted as saying by dailymail.co.uk.

“It’s the most attractive competition in the world – we need to be there again. This is our main objective for this season, to play Champions League football again because I think this club should always play in the Champions League.

Sunil Gavaskar gives his opinion of GT allrounder Rahul Tewatia

The left-handed batsman from Haryana is garnering praise from all quarters for the way he’s finishing games regularly in the most exciting IPL season.

Gavaskar reckons Tewatia’s whirlwind knock in Sharjah (in IPL 2020) where he smashed West Indies pacer Sheldon Cottrell for five sixes in an over, gave him the confidence that he belongs to the big stage.

Speaking on Cricket Live on Star Sports, Gavaskar said, “That assault on Sheldon Cottrell in Sharjah gave him the belief to do the impossible and the confidence that he belongs here. We saw the impossible (he did with the bat) the other day as well. There’s no twitching or touching the pads (which shows a batter’s nervousness) when he bats in the death overs. He just waits for the ball to be delivered and plays his shots. He’s got all the shots in the book, but most importantly his temperament to stay cool in a crisis is brilliant.”

Gavaskar has also nicknamed the 28-year-old cricketer the ‘ice-man’ and lauded Tewatia’s ability to remain unruffled during the tense moments.
