Karnataka Governor lists out plan for Benglauru’s integrated development
Bengaluru, July 2 (IANS) The JD-S-Congress coalition government in Karnataka is striving to work towards integrated development of Bengaluru, Governor Vajubhai R. Vala said on Monday.
“The state is aware of the infrastructure gaps in Bengaluru. It is necessary to effectively implement traffic control, drinking water systems and housing programmes in the city. The government will strive towards the integrated development of the city,” he said in his address to a joint session of the legislature as the state’s newly-elected 15th assembly began its first session.
The state-run public bicycle sharing system, ‘Trin Trin’, launched in Mysuru last year, will be implemented in the state capital as well in a bid to ease the city’s traffic, Vala said.
“The state plans to implement the ‘Intelligent Transport System’ in the core parts of Bengaluru city — free wifi, closed circuit camera, panic alarm and SOS button in mobile app for women’s safety will be provided in buses,” he added.
To ensure road safety and minimise road accidents, an annual work programme will be put in place to collect data on the condition of the roads and maintain them regularly, the Governor said.
The state has also initiated a project in Bengaluru in order to improve the water distribution system by reduction of unaccounted flow of water with the financial assistance of Japan International Cooperation Agency, he said, adding that the this is expected to be completed by the end of 2022.
The Governor also outlined the programmes which were started by the previous government run by Congress, the coalition partner of the Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S), which together have formed the government in the state.
With the commissioning of 2,000 MW capacity Pavagada Solar Park in Tumakuru district, about 70km northwest of here, the state now has a total power generation capacity of 26,985 MW, Vala said.
“The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation will complete 118 km of lane length by March 2021, increasing the passenger capacity from the current 3.6 lakh per day to nearly 20 lakh,” he said.
