The much respected profession in the world is of a Doctor . Doctors are the only people who are worshipped irrespective of their whereabouts. They are born to save the lives of people. The profession itself brings dignity and respect to the person. Though there are wonderful doctors who saved the lives of many there are also instances where some doctors misused their profession. There are many cheating cases filed on doctors so far. Here are 6 horrific incidents where hospitals cheated patients for money.

1.Facebook user Parul Bhasin Verma recently shared that when her mother fell ill,   after accidentally inhaling ammonia she was admitted to B L Kapoor, Delhi and was diagnosed with Liver Cirrhosis for which they spent over 1.2 crores and are now paying a huge debt.

2.Similar to this case, Fortis hospital too charged over Rs 1 lakh per day for fifteen days from the parents of the child who was suffering from dengue. Unfortunately, 7-year-old Adya Singh did not survive. The parents even insisted on an MRI or scan to check whether their daughter was alive or not, but doctors blatantly denied it.

3.In 2016, Dilip Salvi, a ward boy at the St George Hospital was caught asking patients to buy medicines and then returning them to make money. He was caught by a patient who got admitted to the hospital for his kidney removal.

4.Back in January 2017, the Legal Metrology Organisation, which comes under the Department of Civil Supplies, Food and Consumer Protection of State conducted a thorough investigation and found as many as eight Mumbai hospitals were guilty of overcharging and misleading their patients.

5.60-year-old Bhim Singh who was admitted to Fortis was overcharged Rs 36 lakh by the hospital for treating surgery for a stone in his gall bladder. The hospital denied the allegations, claiming that the “final billed amount” was Rs 23.27 lakh.

It’s bizarre how healthcare has become a money minting business for many hospitals and doctors who swear to save our lives and treat us to the best of their abilities are among the main culprits.

Covid toll in Karnataka is a worrying sign for state government

Even though Karnataka recorded the lowest number of Covid deaths in April since the virus struck first in 2020, the state is recording a rise in the positivity rate (1.50 per cent). Five people died from the Covid infections in April as per the statistics released by the state health department. In March, the positivity rate stood around 0.53 per cent. In the first week of April it came down to 0.38 per cent, second week registered 0.56 per cent, third week it rose to 0.79 per cent and by end of April the Covid positivity rate touched 1.19 per cent.

Health experts said that the mutated Coronavirus is losing its fierce characteristics as vaccination, better treatment facilities and awareness among the people have contributed to the lesser number of Covid deaths.

The first Covid case was reported in the state in March 2020 and three Covid deaths were recorded in the month.
