NSUI demands fresh DUSU election
New Delhi, Nov 16 (IANS) The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) on Friday demanded that the Delhi University Vice Chancellor order fresh elections for the Students’ Union.
The demand came a day after the incumbent Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) President Ankiv Baisoya was forced to step down from the post till the completion of an inquiry against him for allegedly submitting fake education certificates to get admission in the DU.
In his letter to Vice Chancellor Yogesh Tyagi, DUSU Secretary Akash Choudhary argued that the Lyngdoh guidelines which stipulate raising the next ranked office bearer to the vacated post are not valid in this case since the guidelines are only an advisory and not binding on the university.
Chaudhary, the sole office bearer in the union from NSUI, said that the DUSU Constitution has no mention of the Lyngdoh guidelines and called for fresh elections.
Baisoya resigned on Thursday after his membership was suspended by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.
The NSUI also demanded criminal action against Baisoya as well as K.T.S. Sarao, the head of Buddhist Department where Baisoya took admission, for admitting him on the basis of fake documents.
A case in Delhi High Court is due for hearing on November 20, where he is accused of faking certificates from Thiruvalluvar University at Vellore in Tamil Nadu, to secure admission in the DU.
Although Baisoya wrote on his Facebook account that he has resigned from his post, no confirmation has yet been given by the varsity authorities of its acceptance and next course of action.
Baisoya was elected the DUSU President in September. The ABVP won three of the four seats.
