Modi to interact with ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ supporters
To intensify the “Main Bhi Chowkidar” campaign, Prime Minister Narendra Modi would interact with people, mainly security guards, across the country through audio bridge technology on Wednesday a day ahead of Holi, the festival of colours.
The Prime Minister will again on March 31 address the people who have pledged support to the “Main Bhi Chowkidar” through video conferencing.
BJP media cell convenor Anil Baluni, who announced the two events of the Prime Minister, said that the campaign initiated has been turning into “a mass movement”.
“The outreach programme, which is already turning into a mass movement, is aimed at the common man of the country who silently work in the background and as such is one of the invisible pillars of the country. The address with chowkidars on March 20 is a significant step towards meeting the objectives of ‘antyodaya’ and ‘sabka saath sabka vikas’,” Baluni said in a statement.
He said under the campaign on Twitter, at least 20 lakh people came out to support it and tweeted on their accounts with hashtag ‘MainBhiChowkidar.
Earlier, BJP leader and Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad told the media that while the movement was becoming popular among the common man, those who were out on bail and facing various legal action were troubled by it.
“Over one crore people have joined the campaign and it is now a people’s movement. PM Narendra Modi will interact with those pledged for it at 500 locations in the country via video conference on March 31,: he said.
Not Delhi but from one of these locations, Modi may address the ‘Chowkidars’, who include political workers, leaders, professionals, farmers, sanitation workers, retired armed force personnel, the youth, sportsmen, women, among others, he added.
While the campaign was becoming popular among the people, there were some who opposed it, the Minister said.
“Those who are out on bail with their families or have something to hide are opposing the movement. Some people are saying ‘Chowkidar’ is for the rich. These are the same people who looted about 12 lakh crore from poor people,” he said.
Ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, Modi last week tweeted a video with hashtag ‘#MainBhiChowkidar’ (I am also a watchman) and called all those fighting corruption, dirt and social evils a ‘watchman’.
BJP leaders have added ‘Chowkidar’ before their names on Twitter.
