leasing a circular, the DGCA said, “The competent authority has decided that scheduled international commercial passenger services to/from India shall remain suspended till 2359 hrs IST of July 15, 2020.”

With India continuing to witness a massive rise in corona virus cases, the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Friday extended the ban on international commercial flights till July 15.

Releasing a circular, the DGCA said, “The competent authority has decided that scheduled international commercial passenger services to/from India shall remain suspended till 2359 hrs IST of July 15, 2020.”

However, the DGCA clarified that the ban will not be applicable for international cargo flights and those flights that have been approved by the DGCA.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, earlier this month, had said India will take a decision on resumption of international passenger flights in July if corona virus behaves in a “predictable manner” and the entire aviation ecosystem and state governments are onboard.

The country resumed domestic passenger flights from May 25 after a gap of two months amid the corona virus pandemic.

“I am often asked, when can you start international civil aviation? If you leave it to me, and if the ecosystem works, and if we have the predictability in terms of behavior of the virus, I think in the coming month we should start taking the decision. But those decisions will not be taken by the Indian civil aviation ministry,” Puri had said.

Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri had also said that regular international flight services can be resumed when the domestic traffic reaches about 50-60 per cent and when other countries open up to international traffic without present conditionality.

“We can start regular international flights when our domestic traffic reaches about 50-60% & other countries open up to international traffic without present conditionality,” Hardeep Singh Puri had said in a tweet.
