South Africa & Brazil’ variant of Coronavirus found in India

Brazilian and African variants of the coronavirus have entered India. According to the information, the infection of the South African variant has been found in four people from abroad. A patient has also been infected with the Brazilian variant of Corona. At the same time, 187 people have been found infected by the British strain of Corona. ICMR officials informed about this.

ICMR DG Balaram Bhargava said on Tuesday that four people were found to be infected with SARS-Kov-2, a South African variant of the coronavirus, in January. A patient was found infected with the Brazilian version of Corona. All five patients have been quarantined. He said that among the patients infected with African strains, one returned from Angola, one from Tanzania, and two from Southern Africa.

Bhargava reported that the Brazilian version of Corona showed mutations in the receptor binding of spike proteins. Its transmission capacity is very fast, due to which it has spread to 15 countries of the world. A case has been reported in India. The corona strain was found in a man who returned from Brazil in the first week of February. Apart from these, many people in India were found infected with the British strain of Corona first.

So far 187 people have received the infection of the British version of Corona. Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said that travelers from Brazil and Africa come through Gulf countries. In such a situation, the government is preparing to do a full check on people coming from these countries.

Covid toll in Karnataka is a worrying sign for state government

Even though Karnataka recorded the lowest number of Covid deaths in April since the virus struck first in 2020, the state is recording a rise in the positivity rate (1.50 per cent). Five people died from the Covid infections in April as per the statistics released by the state health department. In March, the positivity rate stood around 0.53 per cent. In the first week of April it came down to 0.38 per cent, second week registered 0.56 per cent, third week it rose to 0.79 per cent and by end of April the Covid positivity rate touched 1.19 per cent.
