Xiaomi has been teasing its concept folding smartphones for a while now and we finally have a proper launch of a folding device by the Chinese company. The company’s first commercially available foldable phone was announced today and it was shown off at a live streaming event.

The foldable phone is called the Mi Mix Fold and uses a very similar design as the Samsung Galaxy Fold. There’s an 8.01-inch OLED main screen (2,480 x 1,860, 60Hz, HDR10+, Dolby Vision) and a 6.52-inch 90hZ OLED display on the outside that has a resolution of 2,520 X 840 pixels. Xiaomi also said that the main screen can be folded one million times.

In terms of specifications, the Mi Mix Fold is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC, has a 5,020mAh battery that can be charged at 67W. The fast-charging tech can fully charge the smartphone in 37 minutes according to the Chinese brand. In terms of cameras, the Mi Mix Fold has a 108MP main camera, a 13MP ultra-wide sensor and an 8MP Lens. The 8MP lens uses something called liquid lens technology which enables it to offer 3X telephoto capabilities and 30x hybrid zoom. The outer display also has a punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera which is a 20MP lens.

The Mi Mix Fold is the company’s first official folding smartphone that is available to purchase even though the company showed off the Mi Mix Alpha two years ago. That concept smartphone features a wraparound screen that covers most of the smartphone with a display. Xiaomi also showed off a concept smartphone with a double-folding design.

However, for now, the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold is the only commercially available folding device by the Chinese company. Prices start at 9,999 yuan (~ Rs 1,11,978.52 ) for the 12GB/256GB model. The more expensive model that has a configuration of 16GB/512GB and a ceramic body costs 12,999 yuan (~ Rs 1,45,575). As of now, the Mi Mix Fold is only available in China and won’t be coming to global markets.
