Gurugram district administration has partnered with WhatsApp to launch a dedicated Covid-19 helpline on the chat app. The helpline is meant to provide citizens access to critical information related to Covid-19 resources.
Called the DC Gurugram Covid Helpline, the new initiative will work through a chatbot on WhatsApp. This means WhatsApp users will be able to avail required information on Covid-19 related resources and topics through a simple chat.
The chatbot makes use of the WhatsApp Business API to source its information directly from official sources. The intent is to ensure quick and easy access to Covid-related emergencies as well as information that will help the citizens be safeguarded against the disease.
As for the type of information that will be imparted, the service promises to help find resources like beds, care centres, RT-PCR centres as well as online doctor consultation. Users will also be able to register themselves on the portal as a Covid-positive patient.
In addition, the helpline can also link users with the services of MyUpchar, Meddo and Dunzo for varying purposes. The WhatsApp chatbot has been developed by Infobip and Day Technologies, while the helpline itself has been developed by a group of volunteers, private sector organisations and various departments within the Gurugram District Administration.
How to use DC Gurugram Covid WhatsApp helpline
Those wanting to use the DC Gurugram Covid helpline on WhatsApp will have to first add the number +91 9643277788 to their contacts on WhatsApp.
Once the contact reflects on the app, users can simply write Hi or Hello to initiate a conversation with the chatbot. Upon sending the message, the chatbot will reply with a list of options that users can choose from by simply sending back the number corresponding to their requirement.
The helpline will be available for use in English and Hindi languages. It will be free for use to all.
The service works just like the one provided by the Indian government to all Indians through WhatsApp. Called WhatsApp’s MyGov Corona Helpdesk chatbot, the initiative aims to inform users of all Covid-19 related topics and help those seeking professional advice
