The government of Tamil Nadu has announced that the students of Classes 1 to 8 have all been promoted to their higher classes without the conduction of final exams this year. This decision was taken by the government in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.

A circular has been released by the Tamil Nadu State Education Department, which states that the government has declared the students of Classes 1 to 8 all pass, without the conduction of final exams this year in view of the pandemic situation in the state.

Earlier this year, the government of Tamil Nadu had also announced that the students of Classes 9, 10, and 11 will be promoted to their higher standard without the conduction of final exams due to the lockdown and closure of schools caused by the pandemic.

Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami said, “They have been promoted after taking into consideration the unprecedented circumstances, the request from parents, and the opinions of the educationists.”

Tamil Nadu schools reopening

In the circular issued by the state education department, it has also been mentioned that the schools in Tamil Nadu will only be reopened once the lockdown has been lifted and the Covid-19 situation in the state is improved significantly.

The schools in Tamil Nadu were briefly reopened in 2021 for senior classes as the board exams were approaching. The schools were shut down in February and March once again due to the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Currently, all the lessons and academic activities in Tamil Nadu schools are being conducted online. No final date for the reopening of schools has been published by the government yet.

In recent news, the government of Tamil Nadu has agreed with the decision of the central government to conduct the Class 12 board exams in the state. The dates and the format for the conduction of the board exams will be announced by the state government soon.
