Chinese manufacturer OnePlus to launch ‘T’ version of their flagship devices
OnePlus launched its flagship OnePlus 9 series earlier this year. The lineup brought the regular OnePlus 9 and the high-end OnePlus 9 Pro. In addition to that, the brand showcased a new affordable offering called the OnePlus 9R, which is essentially a designed OnePlus 8T.
For those unaware, OnePlus also releases a T version of their flagship devices. The first T series device, known as OnePlus 3T, came in 2016. Since then, the brand has been launching a new T series device every year without fail.
We have seen barely any leaks around the OnePlus 9T, but that doesn’t confirm the inexistence of this smartphone. The OnePlus 8T arrived in October last year, so we hope more leaks will pop up in the coming weeks. That being said, a fresh report reveals that the OnePlus 9T will feature a Samsung LTPO OLED display with support for a 120Hz scalable refresh rate.
The OnePlus 8T turned out to be a superb device, and the same is being expected from the upcoming iteration. Although we do not have a lot to back that notion, we can still predict as to what OnePlus 9T will have on offer.
OnePlus 9T specs and features
–OnePlus usually launches a T version in the latter half of the year. These devices are meant to offer better value for money. The OnePlus 8 Pro and the OnePlus 8T are quite similar in terms of specs if you look closely. But you can grab the latter at a much lower price.
–The current-gen OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro starts at Rs 50,000 and Rs 65,000, respectively, which is definitely not cheap. So, it makes sense for folks to wait for the upcoming OnePlus 9T as it might bring similar specs at a much lower price.
–As mentioned before, the upcoming OnePlus 9T has seen very few leaks. One of which says that the smartphone will feature an LTPO Samsung E4 flexible AMOLED panel. This will be an FHD+ panel with a scalable refresh rate of 120Hz.
–The E4 AMOLED is a superior display tech developed by Samsung, meant to offer better brightness levels, improved contrast and colour accuracy while saving power. On the other hand, an LTPO display allows the phone to scale the refresh rate to as low as 1Hz depending on the used case, which effectively improves battery life. Smartphones like OnePlus 9 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S2 Ultra and Note 20 Ulta leverage the LTPO technology.
–OnePlus does experiment with the design of its T models, for reference, the OnePlus 8T has a different design than the OnePlus, and the same can be said about the OnePlus 7T, which had a distinct design as compared to the OnePlus 7. So, we wouldn’t be surprised if the OnePlus 9T comes in a completely new design.
–OnePlus entered into a long-term partnership with Swedish camera maker Hasselblad earlier this year. As a result, we saw Hasselblad powered cameras on the OnePlus 9 and the OnePlus 9 Pro. This merger is sought to improve the camera systems on the flagship OnePlus devices. And we have a strong feeling that it also applies to the upcoming OnePlus 9T.
–As far as the hardware is concerned, it is likely to be powered by Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 888 SoC that also powers both the high-end OnePlus devices. Further, it should be coupled with up to 12GB RAM and 256 of onboard storage.
–Also, the device should be 5G and Wi-Fi 6 capable. Besides this, we may see improved battery life considering the rumoured display tech to be used. But we aren’t negating the fact that OnePlus may choose to put a bigger battery inside the OnePlus 9T and bring even faster-charging tech.
–The OnePlus 9T will be succeeding over the OnePlus 8T, so let’s quickly go through the specs of this device. The OnePlus 8T sports a 6.5-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with support for a 120Hz refresh rate. Further, the device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC and paired with up to 12GB of RAM.
–In the camera department, the smartphone sports a quad-camera setup on the rear consisting of a 48-megapixel primary lens, a 16-megapixel ultra-wide shooter, a 5-megapixel macro sensor and a 2-megapixel monochrome lens. On the front, it gets a 16-megapixel shooter for selfies—finally, the OnePlus 8T ships with a 4500mAh battery that a 65W fast charger can top.
OnePlus 9T India launch
Currently, there’s no information around the launch of the OnePlus 9T. However, keeping the previous launch trends in mind, we expect the smartphone to arrive somewhere in October this year.
OnePlus 9T India price
We have seen a gradual surge in the pricing of OnePlus smartphones. The same can be said about the OnePlus T series device, the OnePlus 7T launched at a starting price of Rs 37,999, whereas the OnePlus 8T went out on sale for 42,999.
If we take a look at the current OnePlus 9 lineup, the cheapest of all, i.e. the OnePlus 9R, costs Rs 39,999. Whereas the other two devices, the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro, at Rs 50,000 and Rs 65,000, respectively. With that in mind, we predict the OnePlus 9T to ship at a starting price of Rs 52,000 in India.
