Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah was selected due to his reputation not current form: Former Indian Wicketkeeper

Former India wicketkeeper and national selector Saba Karim feels that the selectors only picked Jasprit Bumrah because of his reputation instead of his current form in the World Test Championship Final (WTC) against New Zealand.

New Zealand defeated India by eight wickets in the final at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton. India’s spearhead Jasprit Bumrah went wicketless in both the innings against New Zealand and the pacers’ conditions.

“I feel the selectors did not pay attention to the current form and went on with reputation to a certain extent. Jasprit Bumrah has not played red-ball cricket since he got injured in Australia,” Karim told India News.

“He has only played white-ball cricket and that too only the T20s. He did not play in the home series against England. I felt he was woefully out of form and along with that out of practice if we talk about red-ball cricket,” added Bumrah.

However, Karim is wrong in his assessment about Bumrah not playing red-ball cricket after the Australia series. Bumrah played the first Test against England in Chennai during India’s home series and picked up four wickets in the match.

However, Karim felt that Bumrah was getting his groove back in the second innings when he had a catch dropped off his bowling.

“To a certain extent, I felt he was getting back his rhythm in the second innings spell he bowled; he was also unlucky at times. But in the end, he couldn’t catch the length that is required in red-ball cricket, especially in conducive conditions, in the entire Test match. I feel this is a very big area of concern and it is required to rectify this in the upcoming series,” said Karim.

India will play a five-match Test series against England, starting from August 4.

The court, generally, considers a person who commit a crime and the one who destroys the evidence, as criminals in the eyes of law. But what if an animal destroys the evidence of a crime committed by a human.

In a peculiar incident in Rajasthan, a monkey fled away with the evidence collected by the police in a murder case. The stolen evidence included the murder weapon (a blood-stained knife).

The incident came to light when the police appeared before the court and they had to provide the evidence in the hearing.

The hearing was about the crime which took place in September 2016, in which a person named Shashikant Sharma died at a primary health center under Chandwaji police station. After the body was found, the deceased’s relatives blocked the Jaipur-Delhi highway, demanding an inquiry into the matter.

Following the investigation, the police had arrested Rahul Kandera and Mohanlal Kandera, residents of Chandwaji in relation to the murder. But, when the time came to produce the evidence related to the case, it was found that the police had no evidence with them because a monkey had stolen it from them.

In the court, the police said that the knife, which was the primary evidence, was also taken by the monkey. The cops informed that the evidence of the case was kept in a bag, which was being taken to the court.

The evidence bag contained the knife and 15 other important evidences. However, due to the lack of space in the malkhana, a bag full of evidence was kept under a tree, which led to the incident.
