Indian skipper Mithali Raj’s ranking improved after first ODI against England
Mithali Raj played a brilliant innings of 72 runs in the first ODI against England. Mithali has now joined the top-5 batters after this innings. Mithali, 38, has completed 22 years in international cricket. India scored 201 for eight, which was not enough against the world champions, but Mithali alone added 72 runs to this total.
However, no other player from India had a significant advantage in the rankings. All-rounder Pooja Vastrakar finished 97th in the rankings for batsmen and 88th among bowlers. Young sensation Shefali Verma, ranked first in the T20 International format, started the ODI rankings at 120th position. He scored 15 runs in 14 balls in his debut match. England’s opening batsman Tammy Beaumont, who is at the top of the rankings, further consolidated her position. The player, who was adjudged the player of the match by an innings of 87 not out in this match, scored 26 rating points, taking his total rating points to 791. Natalie Sciver’s 74 not out moved the women’s latest ranking from ninth to eighth.
In the bowlers’ list, Anya Shrubsole has improved three places to eighth, while T20 International ranking-topped left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone has moved up four places to 10th. He sent three batters to the pavilion including the wickets of Mithali and Harmanpreet Kaur in the match against India. Kate Cross has improved three places to the 25th spot.

Sunil Gavaskar gives his opinion of GT allrounder Rahul Tewatia
The left-handed batsman from Haryana is garnering praise from all quarters for the way he’s finishing games regularly in the most exciting IPL season.
Gavaskar reckons Tewatia’s whirlwind knock in Sharjah (in IPL 2020) where he smashed West Indies pacer Sheldon Cottrell for five sixes in an over, gave him the confidence that he belongs to the big stage.
Speaking on Cricket Live on Star Sports, Gavaskar said, “That assault on Sheldon Cottrell in Sharjah gave him the belief to do the impossible and the confidence that he belongs here. We saw the impossible (he did with the bat) the other day as well. There’s no twitching or touching the pads (which shows a batter’s nervousness) when he bats in the death overs. He just waits for the ball to be delivered and plays his shots. He’s got all the shots in the book, but most importantly his temperament to stay cool in a crisis is brilliant.”
Gavaskar has also nicknamed the 28-year-old cricketer the ‘ice-man’ and lauded Tewatia’s ability to remain unruffled during the tense moments.
