Indian cricket fans admired the amazing innings of Ishaan Kishan and Prithvi Shaw

The Indian team, which went on the tour of Sri Lanka, defeated Sri Lanka by 7 wickets with 80 balls in its first ODI match itself. Let us tell you that openers Prithvi Shaw and Ishan Kishan contributed a lot in this victory of India, surprisingly both these batsmen were playing their first International One Day. Shaw played an aggressive innings of 43 runs in 24 balls, while Kishan scored 59 runs in 42 balls in his debut ODI.

Seeing the way Kishan batted in the match, it did not seem that he was playing his first ODI. How fearless he played, it can be gauged from the fact that he started the ODI innings with a six. Like Kishan, Shaw also batted aggressively. He scored 43 runs in just 24 balls. Both these batsmen had put the match in India’s bag in the first 15 overs itself. Captain Shikhar Dhawan himself also said this after the match.

Team India may have won with this innings of Kishan and Shaw. But it has definitely created problems for Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul. We are saying this because the T20 World Cup is to be held in the UAE in October-November this year. Before that, this would be India’s last limited overs series. It is also being seen as a platform to fill one or two vacant slots in the team for the T20 World Cup. The biggest drag is about the opening. Because apart from Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul can also claim to play at this place.

The left-handed batsman from Haryana is garnering praise from all quarters for the way he’s finishing games regularly in the most exciting IPL season.

Gavaskar reckons Tewatia’s whirlwind knock in Sharjah (in IPL 2020) where he smashed West Indies pacer Sheldon Cottrell for five sixes in an over, gave him the confidence that he belongs to the big stage.

Speaking on Cricket Live on Star Sports, Gavaskar said, “That assault on Sheldon Cottrell in Sharjah gave him the belief to do the impossible and the confidence that he belongs here. We saw the impossible (he did with the bat) the other day as well. There’s no twitching or touching the pads (which shows a batter’s nervousness) when he bats in the death overs. He just waits for the ball to be delivered and plays his shots. He’s got all the shots in the book, but most importantly his temperament to stay cool in a crisis is brilliant.”

Gavaskar has also nicknamed the 28-year-old cricketer the ‘ice-man’ and lauded Tewatia’s ability to remain unruffled during the tense moments.
