Shikhar Dhawan made history on Sri Lanka tour, Kohli, Ganguly and Dhoni will be left far behind

The Indian team has performed very well in the ODI series against Sri Lanka. After winning both the matches of the series, the team took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. India’s senior players are on a tour of England, due to which Shikhar Dhawan has been given the command of the team. The final match of the series is to be played on 23 July. After this, a three-match T20 series is also to be held between the two teams.

If Shikhar Dhawan wins the third match, then as a captain, he will make a special record of clean sweep in the first ODI series. MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Sourav Ganguly have not been able to do this as captain in ODIs. Dhoni is the most successful captain of Team India in ODIs. They had suffered a massive 2-4 defeat against Australia in their first series. They could not win a single match out of the first three matches.

Virat Kohli played his first ODI as captain against Sri Lanka in June 2013. Sri Lanka defeated Team India by a huge margin of 161 runs. However, after this Kohli was able to win the next 8 matches. On the other hand, talking about Sourav Ganguly, he too could not win the first match as a captain. In September 1999, West Indies defeated Team India by 42 runs in an ODI match. Ganguly could win only one of the first 3 matches as a captain.

The left-handed batsman from Haryana is garnering praise from all quarters for the way he’s finishing games regularly in the most exciting IPL season.

Gavaskar reckons Tewatia’s whirlwind knock in Sharjah (in IPL 2020) where he smashed West Indies pacer Sheldon Cottrell for five sixes in an over, gave him the confidence that he belongs to the big stage.

Speaking on Cricket Live on Star Sports, Gavaskar said, “That assault on Sheldon Cottrell in Sharjah gave him the belief to do the impossible and the confidence that he belongs here. We saw the impossible (he did with the bat) the other day as well. There’s no twitching or touching the pads (which shows a batter’s nervousness) when he bats in the death overs. He just waits for the ball to be delivered and plays his shots. He’s got all the shots in the book, but most importantly his temperament to stay cool in a crisis is brilliant.”

Gavaskar has also nicknamed the 28-year-old cricketer the ‘ice-man’ and lauded Tewatia’s ability to remain unruffled during the tense moments.
