Indian archer Deepika Kumari made her Olympic debut, ranked 9th in the ranking round

The Tokyo Olympics has started from today. Deepika Kumari presented her challenge in archery for India on the first day in the match at Yumenoshima Park. After getting off to a good start, his rhythm deteriorated. World number one archer Deepika scored 663, including 334 in the first half and 329 in the second half. He scored a perfect 10 30 times. After which she finished ninth in the individual event of the ranking round. Deepika will now face Karma of Bhutan in the next round. Deepika started well in this match but as time passed she fell behind against her rivals.

Deepika Kumari finished eighth after the first six marks. During this his score was 56. But after the second end, Paah slipped to 10 places. After this, after the 18th shot, Deepika retained the 10th position. But after that she continued to lag behind and by the end of the last half, she was in 14th place.

After coming in fourth place, once again Deepika fell behind. Overall, when the ranking round games ended, Deepika Kumari finished ninth with 663 points. The special thing is that Deepika retained her place in the top 10.

Talking about the ranking round, Korea’s An San set an Olympic record. She stood first with 680 marks. Not only this, San missed the world record by 12 points. The previous Olympic record was held by Ukraine’s Lena Hersimenko, who scored 673 during the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

She will now face Karma of Bhutan in the round-of-64. In the ranking round, Deepika had moved up to the fourth position, but then slipped down.

The left-handed batsman from Haryana is garnering praise from all quarters for the way he’s finishing games regularly in the most exciting IPL season.

Gavaskar reckons Tewatia’s whirlwind knock in Sharjah (in IPL 2020) where he smashed West Indies pacer Sheldon Cottrell for five sixes in an over, gave him the confidence that he belongs to the big stage.

Speaking on Cricket Live on Star Sports, Gavaskar said, “That assault on Sheldon Cottrell in Sharjah gave him the belief to do the impossible and the confidence that he belongs here. We saw the impossible (he did with the bat) the other day as well. There’s no twitching or touching the pads (which shows a batter’s nervousness) when he bats in the death overs. He just waits for the ball to be delivered and plays his shots. He’s got all the shots in the book, but most importantly his temperament to stay cool in a crisis is brilliant.”

Gavaskar has also nicknamed the 28-year-old cricketer the ‘ice-man’ and lauded Tewatia’s ability to remain unruffled during the tense moments.
