Andhra Pradesh government schools will be moving to an outcome-centric education from the upcoming academic year. This pattern of education is touted to bring out positive behavioural changes in students and transition them into global citizens by developing their social and collaborative skills.

In line with the National Education Policy 2020, the teachers and headmasters will be following the mantra of ‘child is not the reason for his or her low performance’.

FOCUS ON IMPLEMENTATION OF NEP 2020

School Education Commissioner S Suresh Kumar remarked, “Teachers and headmasters should be aware of it and take responsibility for the performance of students.”

“The State Council of Education Research and Training (SCERT) has been entrusted with the task of maintaining academic standards and ensuring all students attain the learning outcomes relative to their class and age,” he added.

Speaking to the news agency PTI, the commissioner said that the government’s top priority is the focused implementation of NEP 2020 via the revision and revamping of each area concerned with education while also keeping it in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (Quality Education).

REFURBISHING INFRASTRUCTURE

Government school infrastructure has been completely refurbished, consisting of new classrooms and digital learning aids apart from clean toilets, playgrounds, art sessions, etcetera, as part of the efforts to achieve the goals.
Another ground-breaking programme aimed at cultivating talent in the proper direction will be the facility of career counselling for pupils from class VIII onwards, with teachers and parents involved.

CONDUCIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT IN ALL SCHOOLS

School Education Commissioner S Suresh Kumar further said“We are creating a conducive learning environment in all schools under the Mana Badi: Nadu-Nedu programme.

“It’s now time to ensure adequate learning outcomes among children through effective classroom transactions,” he added.

The commissioner further spoke with school principals, as well as educational officers at the mandal and regional levels, about the reform agenda, which begins with an innovative and adaptable lesson plan for each class and topic.

ROLE OF TEACHERS

School Education Commissioner S Suresh Kumar went on to say, “Any reform in school education can be successfully implemented at the field level only by the teachers as they are the direct facilitators who interact with the children and impart knowledge to them.

Along these lines, each teacher has been directed to prepare innovative and flexible lesson plans for concerning subjects that are synchronised with the standards of students and best practices.

The lesson plan will also include updated information on each subject besides current affairs.

CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES TO ALSO BE EMPHASISED

Further speaking about the extracurricular activities, School Education Commissioner S Suresh Kumar said, “Not just academics, emphasis will also be on co-curricular and extra-curricular activities so that teaching and learning become holistic.”

“Remedial learning will be another key aspect wherein individual dissimilarities among students will be addressed so as to help them build on their knowledge,” he added.

SCERT TO DEVELOP ACADEMIC MONITORING SYSTEM

The SCERT, which is the Academic Authority for School Education under the RTE Act, would create an academic monitoring system and provide direction and assistance to all field-level officials.

School Education Commissioner S Suresh Kumar further informed that it will monitor the learning outcomes and assess the students’ stand.
