Amid a recent uptick in Covid-19 cases in the national capital, the Delhi government on Friday issued a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for schools.

According to the new guidelines, the Delhi government has directed schools to ensure that no students and staff members should enter school premises without thermal scanning.

The order also advised parents to not send their children to school if they test positive for coronavirus.

Furthermore, schools have been advised to hold meetings with the School Management Committee and Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) on the prevailing Covid situation.

The students should be advised to avoid sharing lunch and stationery items with other students to minimise transmission and encourage social distancing.

Quarantine rooms have to be available at schools. Encourage vaccination among the students and parents, the order read.

In addition to this, the Head of school should ensure that all eligible students/staff/guests should wear face masks properly.

The SOP outlines various precautionary measures to be adopted in schools to prevent the spread of Covid-19 infection.

The national capital has been witnessing an upward trend in Covid-19 cases in the past few days.

On Thursday, Delhi logged 965 fresh Covid cases with a positivity rate of 4.71 per cent while one person died due to the infection. It was 1,009 on Wednesday, 632 on Tuesday and 501 on Monday

Covid toll in Karnataka is a worrying sign for state government

Even though Karnataka recorded the lowest number of Covid deaths in April since the virus struck first in 2020, the state is recording a rise in the positivity rate (1.50 per cent). Five people died from the Covid infections in April as per the statistics released by the state health department. In March, the positivity rate stood around 0.53 per cent. In the first week of April it came down to 0.38 per cent, second week registered 0.56 per cent, third week it rose to 0.79 per cent and by end of April the Covid positivity rate touched 1.19 per cent.
