Berlin: Germany head coach Joachim Loew selected midfielder Patrick Herrmann for the upcoming internationals against the United States and Gibraltar after revealing his 20-man football squad on Tuesday.

The 2014 FIFA World Cup winners encounter the US in a friendly in Cologne on June 10 before they clash Gibraltar for the EURO 2016 qualifiers in Faro three days later, reports Xinhua.

VfB Stuttgart’s Antonio Ruediger and Borussia Monchengladbach’s Patrick Herrmann return into the squad. Defender Antonio Ruediger already made five appearances for the Germany, his last in November 2014 against Spain, meanwhile midfielder Herrmann earned his first call up in March 2013 but was unable to make his debut against Kazakhstan.

Germany coach Loew gives the world champions, goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, midfielder Toni Kroos and forward Thomas Mueller a break.

“I give Thomas and Toni a break as I could always count on them in the past. They have done a lot for the national team. Therefore they deserved a break.”

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Neuer didn’t make it into the squad for medical reasons. “Our team doctor Hans-Wilhelm Mueller-Wohlfahrt has informed me that Manuel can’t train without pain. The long season left its marks.”

Nevertheless, Germany’s 20-man squad consists of 13 FIFA world champions who snatched the title in Brazil.

The squad:

Goalkeeper: Roman Weidenfeller, Ron-Robert Zieler.

Defenders: Jerome Boateng, Erik Durm, Jonas Hector, Mats Hummels, Shkodran Mustafi, Antonio Ruediger, Sebastian Rudy.

Midfielders: Karim Bellarabi, Ilkay Guendogan, Patrick Herrmann, Sami Khedira, Christoph Kramer, Mesut Oezil, Lukas Podolski, Andre Schuerrle, Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Forwards: Mario Goezte, Max Kruse.

Sunil Gavaskar gives his opinion of GT allrounder Rahul Tewatia

The left-handed batsman from Haryana is garnering praise from all quarters for the way he’s finishing games regularly in the most exciting IPL season.

Gavaskar reckons Tewatia’s whirlwind knock in Sharjah (in IPL 2020) where he smashed West Indies pacer Sheldon Cottrell for five sixes in an over, gave him the confidence that he belongs to the big stage.

Speaking on Cricket Live on Star Sports, Gavaskar said, “That assault on Sheldon Cottrell in Sharjah gave him the belief to do the impossible and the confidence that he belongs here. We saw the impossible (he did with the bat) the other day as well. There’s no twitching or touching the pads (which shows a batter’s nervousness) when he bats in the death overs. He just waits for the ball to be delivered and plays his shots. He’s got all the shots in the book, but most importantly his temperament to stay cool in a crisis is brilliant.”

Gavaskar has also nicknamed the 28-year-old cricketer the ‘ice-man’ and lauded Tewatia’s ability to remain unruffled during the tense moments.
