New Delhi: The All India Football Federation (AIFF) on Tuesday entered into an agreement with the French Football Federation (FFF) to seek “technical expertise for further development of the sport” in the country.

AIFF president Praful Patel signed an agreement with the FFF on Tuesday to begin the partnership.

The AIFF had earlier signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Japan Football Association and the German Football Association (DFB) to improve the poor football standards in the country. India are currently ranked 147th in the world.

“It’s an honour to enter into an agreement with the French Football Federation,” Patel said.

“We look forward to learn from their technical expertise for further development of the sport.”

As per the agreement, the parties agreed to cooperate and collaborate in every sphere of footballing activity from technical excellence to administrative and organisational support. India are scheduled to host the 2017 Under-17 football World Cup.

The agreement will also allow the AIFF to arrange for “exposure trips” for matches with French teams and participation in youth tournaments in France for India’s U-17 team, which has secured an automatic qualification in the under-age World Cup after India won the right to host the tournament.

Sunil Gavaskar gives his opinion of GT allrounder Rahul Tewatia

The left-handed batsman from Haryana is garnering praise from all quarters for the way he’s finishing games regularly in the most exciting IPL season.

Gavaskar reckons Tewatia’s whirlwind knock in Sharjah (in IPL 2020) where he smashed West Indies pacer Sheldon Cottrell for five sixes in an over, gave him the confidence that he belongs to the big stage.

Speaking on Cricket Live on Star Sports, Gavaskar said, “That assault on Sheldon Cottrell in Sharjah gave him the belief to do the impossible and the confidence that he belongs here. We saw the impossible (he did with the bat) the other day as well. There’s no twitching or touching the pads (which shows a batter’s nervousness) when he bats in the death overs. He just waits for the ball to be delivered and plays his shots. He’s got all the shots in the book, but most importantly his temperament to stay cool in a crisis is brilliant.”

Gavaskar has also nicknamed the 28-year-old cricketer the ‘ice-man’ and lauded Tewatia’s ability to remain unruffled during the tense moments.
