Ground Water Week commence at Regional Science City

Ground Water Week celebration Program was inaugurated by Shri Chandra Prakash (IAS), Principal Secretary, Minor Irrigation, Ground Water Department, Govt. of UP. The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Shri Prateek Ranjan Chaurasia, Director, Ground Water Dept. Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow in presence of dignitaries like Shri Bharat Lal, Special Secretary, Minor Irrigation and Ground Water Dept. UP, Dr. P. K. Srivastav, former Sr. Scientist from CSIR-CDRI, Shri R. S. Sinha, Sr. Hydrologist from Ground Water Dept. UP.

Through a motivational key note address, Shri Chandraprakash emphasized to conserve each of earthly resources and living creatures. Interacting with students he stressed to make positive effort to create own rain water harvesting system in every house hold coupled with ground water recharging. He also stressed to render a positive action to retain ecological balance of our mother earth. Sensitized students vowed to develop a positive mind set-up to conserve earth’s precious resource.

In an inspirational talk, Shri Bharat Lal enlightened the fact that the water is cradle of life and most of early civilization was built-up in bank of some great river right from Indus Valley to Egyptian civilization. Mentioning an exam-plenary historical context of water stress he told that great mughal emperor Akbar compelled to shift his capital from Fatehpur Shikri due to water scarcity even after setting up of full-fledged infrastructure there. So all we need to execute action to save underground water otherwise human race will be in dire situation in near future.

Highlighting the importance of conducting such mass awareness program Shri Prateek Ranjan Chaurasia said that the ground water level has been depleted drastically in last two decade due to human activity and it is time to conserve and make it affordable to our future generation. Such celebration program will play a pivotal role.

In an introductory note Shri Soumen Ghosh, Curator, Regional Science City, Lucknow said that the program has been conceptualized to spread awareness about conserving groundwater level and proper utilization of rainwater for storage by inducting school students and common mass in a week long program to propagate the message of water conservation.

Several programmes are being organized during Ground Water Week Celebration such as Quiz Programme, Poster Making Contest, Slogan Writing Contest, Puppet Show, Nukkad Natak, Film Show, Water Fair etc.

The celebration program was attended by 500 students along with dignitaries, guest and special invitees.

What monkey fled with a bag containing evidence in it: Read full story

The court, generally, considers a person who commit a crime and the one who destroys the evidence, as criminals in the eyes of law. But what if an animal destroys the evidence of a crime committed by a human.

In a peculiar incident in Rajasthan, a monkey fled away with the evidence collected by the police in a murder case. The stolen evidence included the murder weapon (a blood-stained knife).

The incident came to light when the police appeared before the court and they had to provide the evidence in the hearing.

The hearing was about the crime which took place in September 2016, in which a person named Shashikant Sharma died at a primary health center under Chandwaji police station. After the body was found, the deceased’s relatives blocked the Jaipur-Delhi highway, demanding an inquiry into the matter.

Following the investigation, the police had arrested Rahul Kandera and Mohanlal Kandera, residents of Chandwaji in relation to the murder. But, when the time came to produce the evidence related to the case, it was found that the police had no evidence with them because a monkey had stolen it from them.

In the court, the police said that the knife, which was the primary evidence, was also taken by the monkey. The cops informed that the evidence of the case was kept in a bag, which was being taken to the court.

The evidence bag contained the knife and 15 other important evidences. However, due to the lack of space in the malkhana, a bag full of evidence was kept under a tree, which led to the incident.
