Patil Academy, Vidarbha enter cricket semis
Bengaluru: Dr. D.Y. Patil Academy, along with KSCA XI, Haryana CA and Vidarbha CA qualified for the semi-finals of the KSCA All-India cricket tournament here on Wednesday.
In the four-day semi-finals to be played here from August 8 to 11, KSCA XI will take on Vidarbha Cricket Association while Harayana CA clash with Dr. DY Patil Academy.
Patil Academy drew their match with National Cricket Academy in the concluding league match while as did KSCA XI with Assam while Vidarbha and Haryana, the two unbeaten teams in the league, had already qualified for the knock-out by topping their respective groups.
A double century by D Nischal (218, 470b, 28×4) for KSCA President’s XI featured their inconsequential drawn match with Cricket Association of Bengal as the hosts made 696 for seven with Anirudha Joshi also making merry by scoring 126 (157b, 19×4, 1×6).

Orissa CA 203 and 386 for 7 decl. in 139 overs (Girija Rout 162 not out, Biplab Samantray 51, Ankush Bedi 3-121, Akash Vasist 2-101, Kanwar Abhinay 2-67) drew with Himachal Pradesh CA 308 and 64 for 2 in 20 overs (Prashant Chopra 50 not out).
CA of Bengal: 489 and 67 for 2 in 18 overs (Abhishek Das 36, K Gowtham 2-17) drew with KSCA President’s XI 696 for 7 in 195.4 overs (D Nischal 218, Anirudha Joshi 126, Sadiq Kirmani 30, David Mathias 53 not out, Amit Kuila 2-116, Koushik Ghosh 2-45, Pradipta Pramanik 2-163 ).
Andhra CA 340 and 166 all out in 65.2 overs (KC Cariappa 2-12, Mitrakant Yadav 6-42) lost to KSCA Colts XI 356 and 151 for 6 in 37.1 overs (Liyan Khan 41, Rohan Kadam 42, KC Avinash 50 not out, G Shankar Rao 5-43) by 4 wickets.
Dr. DY Patil Academy 486 and 221 for 6 in 65 overs (Vikrant Auti 85, Shubham Ranjane 54, Zeeshan Ansari 3-68) drew with National Cricket Academy: 370 for 8 decl. in 87.4 overs (Nitish Rana 109 not out, Manjeet Chaudhary 2-85, Swapnil Singh 5-79).
At Mysuru – Kerala CA 266 and 176 beat Tamil Nadu CA 153 and 213 all out in 71.5 overs (Baba Indrajith 47, J Kousik 53 not out, SK Monish 5-64, MD Nidheesh 2-39) by 76 runs.

Sunil Gavaskar gives his opinion of GT allrounder Rahul Tewatia
The left-handed batsman from Haryana is garnering praise from all quarters for the way he’s finishing games regularly in the most exciting IPL season.
Gavaskar reckons Tewatia’s whirlwind knock in Sharjah (in IPL 2020) where he smashed West Indies pacer Sheldon Cottrell for five sixes in an over, gave him the confidence that he belongs to the big stage.
Speaking on Cricket Live on Star Sports, Gavaskar said, “That assault on Sheldon Cottrell in Sharjah gave him the belief to do the impossible and the confidence that he belongs here. We saw the impossible (he did with the bat) the other day as well. There’s no twitching or touching the pads (which shows a batter’s nervousness) when he bats in the death overs. He just waits for the ball to be delivered and plays his shots. He’s got all the shots in the book, but most importantly his temperament to stay cool in a crisis is brilliant.”
Gavaskar has also nicknamed the 28-year-old cricketer the ‘ice-man’ and lauded Tewatia’s ability to remain unruffled during the tense moments.
