South Africa beat India in a thriller
Kanpur: India suffered a five-run defeat against South Africa in their first of the five-match One-Day International (ODI) series at the Green Park stadium here on Sunday.
Skipper AB de Villier’s attacking 104 not out — 21st ODI century — powered South Africa to 303/5. In reply, Rohit Sharma’s 133-ball 150 — his eighth ODI ton — took India close to the target, but South African bowlers held their nerve to register the slender five-run victory.
After getting a fine start South African team fumbled in between the innings during their batting but AB Devillers came as a rescuer for them and Proteas managed to pile 303 in their mandatory 50 overs.
Indian team was rock solid and openers lead from the front to reach a fine mark and made the chase easy for the people to come.
Rohit blazed through a brilliant century and was playing with ease from one end. Rahane who was not included in the T20 series was today given chance and he once again proved that he is just a class act to watch no matter whatever the batting position he is provided to bat.
Kohli was again dismissed cheaply and was looking out of form. On the other hand Rahane managed to make the most of the opportunity he was given amidst all the controversy regarding his place in the team.

Sunil Gavaskar gives his opinion of GT allrounder Rahul Tewatia
The left-handed batsman from Haryana is garnering praise from all quarters for the way he’s finishing games regularly in the most exciting IPL season.
Gavaskar reckons Tewatia’s whirlwind knock in Sharjah (in IPL 2020) where he smashed West Indies pacer Sheldon Cottrell for five sixes in an over, gave him the confidence that he belongs to the big stage.
Speaking on Cricket Live on Star Sports, Gavaskar said, “That assault on Sheldon Cottrell in Sharjah gave him the belief to do the impossible and the confidence that he belongs here. We saw the impossible (he did with the bat) the other day as well. There’s no twitching or touching the pads (which shows a batter’s nervousness) when he bats in the death overs. He just waits for the ball to be delivered and plays his shots. He’s got all the shots in the book, but most importantly his temperament to stay cool in a crisis is brilliant.”
Gavaskar has also nicknamed the 28-year-old cricketer the ‘ice-man’ and lauded Tewatia’s ability to remain unruffled during the tense moments.
