Negeri Sembilan (Malaysia): Indian golfer Ajeetesh Sandhu managed to make the halfway cut on a five-over 147 total in the PGM Nilai Springs Championship here on Thursday.

Ajeetesh, who got a three-over 75 on the opening day of the Asian Development Tour (ADT) event, improved his performance with a 72 that helped him take the joint 47th spot. The cut was declared at five-over 147 only at the Nilai Springs Golf and Country Club.

Ajeetesh, the lone Indian competing at the tournament, bagged a birdie on the fourth hole but bogeys on the sixth and seventh hole affected him. He played par back-nine that gave him a 72.

Meanwhile, Australia’s Jordan Sherratt lit the day’s fireworks by carding a sparkling seven-under 64 to grab a share of the second round lead with Thailand’s Chanat Sakulpolphaisan.

Sherratt enjoyed a bogey-free round highlighted by seven birdies to sit alongside the Thai at the top of the leaderboard with their matching two-day total of nine-under 133.

New Zealand’s Sean Riordan signed for a 67 to take the third place while England’s Chrsitopher Cannon and Thailand’s Wisut Artjanawat are tied for the fourth position on 136.

Sunil Gavaskar gives his opinion of GT allrounder Rahul Tewatia

The left-handed batsman from Haryana is garnering praise from all quarters for the way he’s finishing games regularly in the most exciting IPL season.

Gavaskar reckons Tewatia’s whirlwind knock in Sharjah (in IPL 2020) where he smashed West Indies pacer Sheldon Cottrell for five sixes in an over, gave him the confidence that he belongs to the big stage.

Speaking on Cricket Live on Star Sports, Gavaskar said, “That assault on Sheldon Cottrell in Sharjah gave him the belief to do the impossible and the confidence that he belongs here. We saw the impossible (he did with the bat) the other day as well. There’s no twitching or touching the pads (which shows a batter’s nervousness) when he bats in the death overs. He just waits for the ball to be delivered and plays his shots. He’s got all the shots in the book, but most importantly his temperament to stay cool in a crisis is brilliant.”

Gavaskar has also nicknamed the 28-year-old cricketer the ‘ice-man’ and lauded Tewatia’s ability to remain unruffled during the tense moments.
