‘Jharkhand to benefit from Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana’
Ranchi:Jharkhand Chief Minister Ragubar Das on Wednesday said the state would benefit from the union cabinet approving the New Crop Insurance Scheme – Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.
“We congratulate Prime Minister Naredra Modi for fulfilling promises made to farmers of the country by bringing the New Crop Insurance Scheme – Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. The new insurance also covers the vegetables and fruits.
“Jharkhand is one of large producers of the vegetables and it will help the farmers of the state,” said Das in a press conference here on Wednesday.
“We will table separate agriculture budget to boost the farming in the state. The concerns of the farmers will be taken care of in the budget.
“The state will do needful to crease the seize of land by getting the land survey and other necessary steps,” he added.
Under the new crop Insurance policy of the central government, there will be a uniform premium of only 2 percent to be paid by farmers for all Kharif crops and 1.5 percent for all Rabi crops.
In case of annual commercial and horticultural crops, the premium to be paid by farmers will be only 5 percent.
The premium rates to be paid by farmers are very low and balance premium will be paid by the government to provide full insured amount to the farmers against crop loss on account of natural calamities.
There is no upper limit on government subsidy. Even if balance premium is 90 percent, it will be borne by the government. Earlier, there was a provision of capping the premium rate which resulted in low claims being paid to farmers.
This capping was done to limit government outgo on the premium subsidy. This capping has now been removed and farmers will get claim against full sum insured without any reduction.
The use of technology will be encouraged to a great extent.
Smart phones will be used to capture and upload data of crop cutting to reduce the delays in claim payment to farmers. Remote sensing will be used to reduce the number of crop cutting experiments.

What monkey fled with a bag containing evidence in it: Read full story
The court, generally, considers a person who commit a crime and the one who destroys the evidence, as criminals in the eyes of law. But what if an animal destroys the evidence of a crime committed by a human.
In a peculiar incident in Rajasthan, a monkey fled away with the evidence collected by the police in a murder case. The stolen evidence included the murder weapon (a blood-stained knife).
The incident came to light when the police appeared before the court and they had to provide the evidence in the hearing.
The hearing was about the crime which took place in September 2016, in which a person named Shashikant Sharma died at a primary health center under Chandwaji police station. After the body was found, the deceased’s relatives blocked the Jaipur-Delhi highway, demanding an inquiry into the matter.
Following the investigation, the police had arrested Rahul Kandera and Mohanlal Kandera, residents of Chandwaji in relation to the murder. But, when the time came to produce the evidence related to the case, it was found that the police had no evidence with them because a monkey had stolen it from them.
In the court, the police said that the knife, which was the primary evidence, was also taken by the monkey. The cops informed that the evidence of the case was kept in a bag, which was being taken to the court.
The evidence bag contained the knife and 15 other important evidences. However, due to the lack of space in the malkhana, a bag full of evidence was kept under a tree, which led to the incident.
