Chokers Proteas are still waiting to win a World Cup
Cricket experts from all around the world will unanimously agree to the fact that no team in cricketing world has been as unfortunate as South Africa. Just when they are near to winning a major tournament, they fail to keep their nerves and have always gone home empty handed, having entered them as one of the favourites. It is a strong team, in all the three departments; their fielding has set a benchmark in international cricket. With an explosive top order batting, the team is still strong and is among the top contenders of the cup.
The Faf-du-Plessis led side has some quality players at the top, de Kock and Amla have given their team decent starts with himself to follow. It is surprising fact, that though it seems A B de Villiers has got lot of runs in limited overs cricket but it is only restricted to the one-day format. In T20s, he has not done that well and does not even exist in the top 20 list of best T20 batsman. He will have to make runs in this tournament to show what he is all about. Rossouw has’nt been quite impressive but the team management still thinks he can deliver. JP Duminy is another handy all-rounder in the team who scores at a good rate and has finished games in the past. Beherdien is also a good contributor to the team though his strike rate is a little worry.
The bowling department looks a bit on the lesser side with out of form Dale Steyn. He seems to have lost the sharpness he is known for. Rabada has come out as an excellent find by the Proteas and has delivered for the team whenever required. David Wiese may have been included because of his experience playing in the IPL. Imran Tahir’s leg spinning deliveries are enough to turn the match around. But he has to keep control on deliveries that have made easy pickings for the batsman; one or two such deliveries come out almost every over. Lack of another quality spinner may hamper them on sub-continental pitches.

Sunil Gavaskar gives his opinion of GT allrounder Rahul Tewatia
The left-handed batsman from Haryana is garnering praise from all quarters for the way he’s finishing games regularly in the most exciting IPL season.
Gavaskar reckons Tewatia’s whirlwind knock in Sharjah (in IPL 2020) where he smashed West Indies pacer Sheldon Cottrell for five sixes in an over, gave him the confidence that he belongs to the big stage.
Speaking on Cricket Live on Star Sports, Gavaskar said, “That assault on Sheldon Cottrell in Sharjah gave him the belief to do the impossible and the confidence that he belongs here. We saw the impossible (he did with the bat) the other day as well. There’s no twitching or touching the pads (which shows a batter’s nervousness) when he bats in the death overs. He just waits for the ball to be delivered and plays his shots. He’s got all the shots in the book, but most importantly his temperament to stay cool in a crisis is brilliant.”
Gavaskar has also nicknamed the 28-year-old cricketer the ‘ice-man’ and lauded Tewatia’s ability to remain unruffled during the tense moments.
