Amid drought, UP government’s relief measures offer an ‘oasis of hope’
Lucknow: Before anyone could actually gauge the intensity of the acute water shortage in Bundelkhand region of the state, which is reeling under a heat wave, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav’s timely intervention, not only provided timely help to the people of the region, but also instilled a ray of hope among them that all is well, and would eventually improve in the coming days.
On April 4, the Uttar Pradesh government announced a relief package for drought-affected Bundelkhand region, promising monthly free ration to 2.30 lakh families in the affected districts. The decision was made within few days of the tour of the region undertaken by CM Akhilesh Yadav. The glimmer of hope for the families hit by drought could be gauged from the fact that Samajwadi Drought Relief Ration Material supply were made will be in addition to the regular PDS distribution of grains for the Antyodaya families.
Addressing the public of the region, which was reeling under drought, the CM said, “The state government has directed that more and more people in Bundelkhand be covered under the Samajwadi Pension Scheme, so that the financially weak persons have money in their hands. For this, the selection criteria will also be tweaked to cover maximum number of persons.
A special grant of Rs 200 crore has been issued to tackle drinking water problems and Rs 40 crore for new handpumps.” He further stated that a project of Rs 1,988 crore for surface transport of water from one area to another has been forwarded to the Centre for approval. Te other measure being undertaken by the government include intensive tours by state officials including the chief secretary Mr Alok Ranjan, and 24-hour power supply in the region, reeling under intense heat wave.

What monkey fled with a bag containing evidence in it: Read full story
The court, generally, considers a person who commit a crime and the one who destroys the evidence, as criminals in the eyes of law. But what if an animal destroys the evidence of a crime committed by a human.
In a peculiar incident in Rajasthan, a monkey fled away with the evidence collected by the police in a murder case. The stolen evidence included the murder weapon (a blood-stained knife).
The incident came to light when the police appeared before the court and they had to provide the evidence in the hearing.
The hearing was about the crime which took place in September 2016, in which a person named Shashikant Sharma died at a primary health center under Chandwaji police station. After the body was found, the deceased’s relatives blocked the Jaipur-Delhi highway, demanding an inquiry into the matter.
Following the investigation, the police had arrested Rahul Kandera and Mohanlal Kandera, residents of Chandwaji in relation to the murder. But, when the time came to produce the evidence related to the case, it was found that the police had no evidence with them because a monkey had stolen it from them.
In the court, the police said that the knife, which was the primary evidence, was also taken by the monkey. The cops informed that the evidence of the case was kept in a bag, which was being taken to the court.
The evidence bag contained the knife and 15 other important evidences. However, due to the lack of space in the malkhana, a bag full of evidence was kept under a tree, which led to the incident.
