Bengaluru: Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh will miss rest of the series against host India as injury in his shoulder has forced management of Kangaroos team to keep him out of playing squad.

The 25-year-old Marsh, bowled just five overs in the Bengaluru Test and scored 48 runs in four innings which the Aussies lost by 75 runs on Tuesday last.

According to a Cricket Australia (CA) statement, the name of the player who will replace Marsh is going to be announced soon by the team management.

Australian team physiotherapist David Beakley said, “Mitchell has been playing with a shoulder injury for most of the summer, which we have been managing up until now, but unfortunately it has progressively deteriorated to a point where he is unable to function at the level required.”

Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh not to play rest of Indian series

Previously, the all-rounder missed the One-day International (ODI) against New Zealand, but recovered in time to play warm-up match in Mumbai against India-A before returning to Australian squad to first Test in Pune.

National coach Australian team, Darren Lehmann said, “It was fine when he got here but it has gotten worse.”

He said, “I was confident (Marsh was fit), I thought he played really well in the second innings in Pune where he got 31. At the end of the day it’s unlucky for Mitch and we move to whoever the next person who comes in (is).”

Australian team already had one extra batsman Usman Khawaja and two spin-bowling all-rounders Glenn Maxwell and Ashton Agar in the squad.
Lehmann said: “Whether we go with Usman Khawaja or Glenn Maxwell or whoever’s selected, we’ll just wait and see.”

Now, Australia will take on the hosts in the third Test in Ranchi from March 16th after India leveled the series by 1-1 each.

Sunil Gavaskar gives his opinion of GT allrounder Rahul Tewatia

The left-handed batsman from Haryana is garnering praise from all quarters for the way he’s finishing games regularly in the most exciting IPL season.

Gavaskar reckons Tewatia’s whirlwind knock in Sharjah (in IPL 2020) where he smashed West Indies pacer Sheldon Cottrell for five sixes in an over, gave him the confidence that he belongs to the big stage.

Speaking on Cricket Live on Star Sports, Gavaskar said, “That assault on Sheldon Cottrell in Sharjah gave him the belief to do the impossible and the confidence that he belongs here. We saw the impossible (he did with the bat) the other day as well. There’s no twitching or touching the pads (which shows a batter’s nervousness) when he bats in the death overs. He just waits for the ball to be delivered and plays his shots. He’s got all the shots in the book, but most importantly his temperament to stay cool in a crisis is brilliant.”

Gavaskar has also nicknamed the 28-year-old cricketer the ‘ice-man’ and lauded Tewatia’s ability to remain unruffled during the tense moments.
