Revamped classic phone Nokia 3310 available in US soon

New Delhi : While the phone will work only with 3G networks it will be fine for satisfying those who are nostalgic about the original. It can still make calls, play some games, send the occasional email and update Facebook. While it cannot compete with modern smart phones, it is still practical for someone who wants a cheap phone.

The new Nokia 3310 has a body design like that of the original but an upgrade to a color screen , a 2 megapixel camera, Micro SD cards support, and a mini web browser. The original phone would not work in the US but the new one will. The phone can be preordered through Best Buy. It will come in azure, charcoal, red and yellow.

The original Nokia 3310 sold quite well with 126 million of them being sold globally. The phone has gained virtually a cult status because of its durability and is one of the most successful phones ever made, with several variants issued.

The original Nokia 3310 would work only on 2G networks but the new issue will work on US 3G networks. 3G may not be around forever but for now the web browser within the phone works and loading is at decent speeds. The new phone issued by HMD Global is a good replica of the original phone. The new phone will work on the GSM networks such as that of T-Mobile and AT & T. When used on the 3G networks users will get up to 6.5 hours of talk time on a single charge. If this sounds good the original phone working on 2G networks could get up to 22 hours on a charge. The new phone will not work on Verizon or Sprint.

Of course the 3310 cant compete with the features of modern cellphones. It has no touchscreen, and has no apps, except limited versions of Facebook and Twitter. It does allow you to play the classic Snake game. But it does do well what phones are meant to do, send and receive calls and for a price well below that of any smart phone. On the appended video the discussion is of the 2G version that is not usable in the US. If you want a really cheap phone Nokia has “dumb” phones that cost $15 dollars with batteries whose charge lasts up to a month.
