Odisha CM meets separated conjoined twins Jaga-Kalia, prays for speedy recovery

Bhubaneswar/New Delhi, Nov 26 (IANS) Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday visited AIIMS in New Delhi to meet the now separated conjoined twins Jaga and Kalia, inquire about their condition and pray for their speedy recovery.

Jaga and Kalia – who were born joined at the head – were separated on October 25, after a marathon surgery that lasted for over 11 hours at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

The Office of the Chief Resident Commissioner, Odisha in New Delhi is constantly monitoring, supervising and providing logistic support to Jaga and Kalia, as per specific directions of the Chief Minister, an official statement said in Bhubaneswar.

During his visit to AIIMS, the Chief Minister met both the children and provided some soft toys for them to play with.

He also met the parents and enquired about their general condition and well-being of Jaga and Kalia. Both the parents expressed their gratitude to the Chief Minister for all the support that has been provided to them by the state government.

Patnaik also discussed the health condition of the children and about their ongoing treatment with AIIMS Director Randeep Guleria and Prof. Ashok Mohapatra. He also thanked them and the entire team of doctors for performing an incredible job and for their untiring efforts in saving the precious lives of the two little children.

The doctors said that both the children are recuperating well and are being constantly monitored, adding that while Jaga is far more stable, Kalia who is still under intensive care is improving gradually and they hope that he will also stabilize fast.

The Chief Minister assured the parents that the Odisha government will be happy to provide any further assistance as may be required by them.

He also assured the Director, AIIMS that the state government would be pleased to provide all necessary support for the full treatment of the children and advised that they should be provided with the best care and treatment.

The state government has already sanctioned Rs 1 crore from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for the twins’ surgery.

Covid toll in Karnataka is a worrying sign for state government

Even though Karnataka recorded the lowest number of Covid deaths in April since the virus struck first in 2020, the state is recording a rise in the positivity rate (1.50 per cent). Five people died from the Covid infections in April as per the statistics released by the state health department. In March, the positivity rate stood around 0.53 per cent. In the first week of April it came down to 0.38 per cent, second week registered 0.56 per cent, third week it rose to 0.79 per cent and by end of April the Covid positivity rate touched 1.19 per cent.
