Want La Liga India fans to enjoy El Clasico: Tebas

New Delhi, Nov 27 (IANS) La Liga President Javier Tebas on Monday said he wants the Indian fans to enjoy and get a feel of the stadium in the upcoming El Clasico tie between arch rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona.

The Spanish league giants will take on each other on December 23 at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid.

Recognising India’s potential as a footballing nation, the La Liga has planned a special screening of the match at the NSIC Grounds, Okhla here.

Javier Tebas, President, La Liga, said: “This December 23, the first El Clasico of the season will be played. A match between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona always generates a tremendous amount of interest around the world. We want the many La Liga fans in India to enjoy the match as if they were in the stadium.

“We are going to prepare an event so that more than 15,000 fans from India can be with us, enjoy the match, and experience La Liga more closely It will be an event for fans of both teams, and La Liga in general, to engage with the best football match in the world.

“We are sure that it will be an unforgettable experience. It’s a great way to be closer to the Indian fans.”

Real Madrid are currently fourth in the La Liga table with 27 points while Barcelona top the chart with 35.

Sunil Gavaskar gives his opinion of GT allrounder Rahul Tewatia

The left-handed batsman from Haryana is garnering praise from all quarters for the way he’s finishing games regularly in the most exciting IPL season.

Gavaskar reckons Tewatia’s whirlwind knock in Sharjah (in IPL 2020) where he smashed West Indies pacer Sheldon Cottrell for five sixes in an over, gave him the confidence that he belongs to the big stage.

Speaking on Cricket Live on Star Sports, Gavaskar said, “That assault on Sheldon Cottrell in Sharjah gave him the belief to do the impossible and the confidence that he belongs here. We saw the impossible (he did with the bat) the other day as well. There’s no twitching or touching the pads (which shows a batter’s nervousness) when he bats in the death overs. He just waits for the ball to be delivered and plays his shots. He’s got all the shots in the book, but most importantly his temperament to stay cool in a crisis is brilliant.”

Gavaskar has also nicknamed the 28-year-old cricketer the ‘ice-man’ and lauded Tewatia’s ability to remain unruffled during the tense moments.
