Patient injured in Delhi hospital fire, 84 evacuated (Lead)

New Delhi, Dec 23 (IANS) A fire broke out in a hospital here on Saturday with one patient receiving minor burn injuries, according to a fire officer.

A police officer said the Delhi Fire Service control room received a call about the fire on the second floor of Metro Hospital at Preet Vihar in east Delhi and 15 fire tenders were rushed to the spot.

“The fire was reported around 3.20 p.m. and doused at 5.40 p.m. During evacuation, a patient received burn injuries and was shifted to nearby Max hospital, while 84 patients have been safely evacuated and shifted to the hospital’s Noida branch,” the officer said.

“Prima facie it looks like a short circuit caused the fire,” the officer said.

Covid toll in Karnataka is a worrying sign for state government

Even though Karnataka recorded the lowest number of Covid deaths in April since the virus struck first in 2020, the state is recording a rise in the positivity rate (1.50 per cent). Five people died from the Covid infections in April as per the statistics released by the state health department. In March, the positivity rate stood around 0.53 per cent. In the first week of April it came down to 0.38 per cent, second week registered 0.56 per cent, third week it rose to 0.79 per cent and by end of April the Covid positivity rate touched 1.19 per cent.
