Pochettino tags Harry Kane as ‘world-class’

London, Dec 27 (IANS) Tottenham Hotspur head coach Mauricio Pochettino has tagged his star striker Harry Kane as ‘world-class’ after his side defeated Southampton 5-2 in an English Premier League (EPL) tie.

Kane, who scored a hat-trick in the match on Tuesday also registered a record 39 EPL goals in a calendar year, eclipsing Alan Shearer’s record from 1995.

The English international, who has scored 56 goals for his club and country combined during the current calendar year, also became the leading scorer in Europe, ahead of football superstar Lionel Messi.

“Harry is world-class,” the Argentine was quoted as saying by The Guardian on Tuesday.

“Of course, Messi and Cristiano are different. Today — one striker in the world, a specific position — who is better than Harry? It’s difficult to say he’s the best but he’s shown to everyone he’s one of the best.

“Both of his records are massive — to break the Premier League record set by Alan Shearer and then, if you see that over the last seven, eight or nine years, it’s always Messi and Cristiano and now, it’s Harry as well,” Pochettino added.

Sunil Gavaskar gives his opinion of GT allrounder Rahul Tewatia

The left-handed batsman from Haryana is garnering praise from all quarters for the way he’s finishing games regularly in the most exciting IPL season.

Gavaskar reckons Tewatia’s whirlwind knock in Sharjah (in IPL 2020) where he smashed West Indies pacer Sheldon Cottrell for five sixes in an over, gave him the confidence that he belongs to the big stage.

Speaking on Cricket Live on Star Sports, Gavaskar said, “That assault on Sheldon Cottrell in Sharjah gave him the belief to do the impossible and the confidence that he belongs here. We saw the impossible (he did with the bat) the other day as well. There’s no twitching or touching the pads (which shows a batter’s nervousness) when he bats in the death overs. He just waits for the ball to be delivered and plays his shots. He’s got all the shots in the book, but most importantly his temperament to stay cool in a crisis is brilliant.”

Gavaskar has also nicknamed the 28-year-old cricketer the ‘ice-man’ and lauded Tewatia’s ability to remain unruffled during the tense moments.
