Wipro gives Earthian Awards to institutes

Bengaluru, Feb 3 (IANS) Global software major Wipro here on Saturday gave Earthian Awards for 2017 to schools and colleges educating students on sustainability.

The seventh edition of the annual awards for colleges and schools working on sustainability education received over 1,200 submissions from across the country of which 11 schools and eight colleges were winners, the company said in a statement.

The participating schools had to showcase their understanding of biodiversity, sustainability and water conservation through written essays and various activities.

Wipro Chairman Azim Premji presented the awards to the winning institutions at a ceremony at the company’s campus in the city.

The awards programme aims at fostering sustainability thinking among students.

City Montessori School from Lucknow, Government Higher Secondary School from Doimukh, Arunachal Pradesh, Government High School from Khudmudi, Chattisgarh, and Holy Angels School from Thiruvananthapuram were some of the winning schools.

CEPT University from Ahmedabad, College of Engineering from Pune, Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kozhikode, Kerala, National University of Study and Research in Law, Ranchi and Sastra University from Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu were among the colleges that won the awards.

Since it was started in 2011, the awards programme has engaged with over 55,000 institutes and 130,000 students from the country, the software major said.

As many as six new nursing colleges to be functional in Haryana soon

Haryana Chief Secretary Sanjeev Kaushal shared that the construction work of six nursing colleges in the state will be completed soon and classes will commence in the month of July. Not only this, the new building of the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Panchkula has also completed its construction work.

Adding on to this, he shared that, till now, the classes are being held in another building, the chief secretary said while presiding over the review meeting of development projects worth more than Rs 100 crore here.

CHIEF SECRETARY REVIEWED MAJOR PROJECTS

The Chief Secretary reviewed several major projects, including power, health, medical, and technical education in the state, and directed the concerned officials to complete them within the stipulated time period.

COLLEGES UNDER CONSTRUCTION

He said that the construction of nursing colleges in Dherdu village of Kaithal, Khedi Ram Nagar village of Kurukshetra, Kheranwali village of Panchkula, Aura and Dayalpur village of Faridabad, and Sadatpur village of Rewari is under construction.

The construction work of Medical college in Koriawas in Narnaul, Medical College at Jind, Bhiwani, and Dental College at Nalhar is being completed at a fast pace. The work of the second phase of Kalpana Chawla Medical College is also undergoing.
