Opening ceremony of 2018 Winter Olympics kicks off
PyeongChang (South Korea), Feb 9 (IANS) The opening ceremony of the PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games kicked off on Friday.
The highlight of the ceremony, which is being attended by 35,000 people, is North and South Korea marching together under a unified flag for the first time in 12 years in front of a North Korean delegation led by the country’s honorary president, Kim Yong-nam, and Kim Yo-jong, sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, reports Efe.
North Korea’s presence at the Games is a result of a landmark agreement between the two Koreas during several high-level meetings in January and follows a period of escalated tension in the region over continuous weapons tests by Pyongyang.

Speaking on Cricket Live on Star Sports, Gavaskar said, “That assault on Sheldon Cottrell in Sharjah gave him the belief to do the impossible and the confidence that he belongs here. We saw the impossible (he did with the bat) the other day as well. There’s no twitching or touching the pads (which shows a batter’s nervousness) when he bats in the death overs. He just waits for the ball to be delivered and plays his shots. He’s got all the shots in the book, but most importantly his temperament to stay cool in a crisis is brilliant.”
Gavaskar has also nicknamed the 28-year-old cricketer the ‘ice-man’ and lauded Tewatia’s ability to remain unruffled during the tense moments.
