Madrid: Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo today stated that his on field rival Lionel Messi is the reason for his motivation.

Messi and Ronaldo are widely considered to be the two best footballers of contemporary times.

They have, together, won the prestigious FIFA Ballon D’ Or annual award, given to the best footballer of the planet, for the last seven years with Messi claiming it a record four times. Ronaldo is the current holder of the trophy.

“I’m sure that the competition between us is a motivating factor for him too,” he was quoted as saying by mirror.co.uk.

“It’s good for me, for him and for other players who are keen to grow. Messi has four Ballon d’Or awards, I have three. This is all good for the world of football,” the 29-year-old added.

Argentine playmaker Messi earlier also expressed his admiration for the Portuguese footballer, saying he would love to play alongside him and identifying him as one of the very best players of all time.

“I think he will definitely be one of (the best players ever), it will be difficult to top that. But yes I’d obviously love to play (with him),” he said.

“I have been fortunate enough to be able to play with many good players and obviously I would love to play with him.”

Sunil Gavaskar gives his opinion of GT allrounder Rahul Tewatia

The left-handed batsman from Haryana is garnering praise from all quarters for the way he’s finishing games regularly in the most exciting IPL season.

Gavaskar reckons Tewatia’s whirlwind knock in Sharjah (in IPL 2020) where he smashed West Indies pacer Sheldon Cottrell for five sixes in an over, gave him the confidence that he belongs to the big stage.

Speaking on Cricket Live on Star Sports, Gavaskar said, “That assault on Sheldon Cottrell in Sharjah gave him the belief to do the impossible and the confidence that he belongs here. We saw the impossible (he did with the bat) the other day as well. There’s no twitching or touching the pads (which shows a batter’s nervousness) when he bats in the death overs. He just waits for the ball to be delivered and plays his shots. He’s got all the shots in the book, but most importantly his temperament to stay cool in a crisis is brilliant.”

Gavaskar has also nicknamed the 28-year-old cricketer the ‘ice-man’ and lauded Tewatia’s ability to remain unruffled during the tense moments.
