Kapil Mishra’s lies nailed: AAP on CBI clean chit to Kejriwal

New Delhi, July 31 (IANS) After the CBI gave a clean chit to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a corruption case, the AAP on Tuesday said the “sacked” party leader Kapil Mishra’s claims that Kejriwal took money have been busted.

A former Water and Art and Culture Minister, Mishra was on May 6, 2017, sacked by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as a Minister in the Delhi government, citing poor performance.

A day later, the sacked AAP leader made allegations of corruption against Kejriwal and Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain.

Mishra was suspended from the party on May 8, 2017.

Addressing the media, AAP Chief Spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj said: “On May 7 last year, Mishra made a blatantly false, misleading, baseless and defamatory statement before the media that Jain handed over Rs 2 crore to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on May 5 at his residence.”

Bhardwaj said that Mishra’s lies were exposed when the AAP asked him about the exact time of the day when he visited the CM’s residence and he refused to answer and said that he will tell only answer to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

“Kapil Mishra confidently claimed that he was an eyewitness to the alleged corrupt activity at the CM’s residence. But when AAP asked him the exact time, his lie was revealed,” Bhardwaj said, adding: “The CCTV at the CM’s house is the evidence that Kapil Mishra did not even go there on May 5, 2017.”

“Now, even after a year, the CBI and Lokayukta have found no merit in Mishra’s claims and closed the case against the Delhi CM,” he said.

Bhardwaj further said that it is now duty of the media to “question Kapil Mishra about the basis of his allegations”.
