Probe pending cases of missing children, LG tells Delhi Police
New Delhi, Oct 11 (IANS) Delhi Lt. Governor Anil Baijal on Thursday directed the Delhi Police to analyse the statistics of untraced children and investigate the cases in which children are still missing.
Baijal was chairing a law and order meeting on “Anti-Human Trafficking Unit and Missing Children”.
“Delhi Police should visit families of children included in ‘Pehchan Scheme’ and ‘Operation Milap’ to instill a sense of security among the parents,” an official statement from the LG Office said.
Baijal also directed the Delhi Police that Crime Branch and local police should develop intelligence and take action against organised gangs that force children/ grownups into begging and take exemplary and deterrent action against them, it said.
He told the Delhi Police that the statistics of untraced children should be analysed and the cases in which children are still untraced should be thoroughly investigated, the statement said.
The trend of recovery of children, including the places from where they are recovered, should also be analysed, it said.
Baijal was informed about the steps taken regarding missing children such as Helpline No. 1094 and 23241210 working 24X7; investigation of important cases transferred to the Crime Branch; a missing persons’ desk in all the police stations; and online data uploaded/ update, among others, according to the statement.
Baijal also advised the Social Welfare Department to take proactive steps to discourage begging.
“The number of Beggar Homes should be enhanced and the facilities in such homes should be improved to make them lively. The Social Welfare Department should also set up skill development centres in such homes along with de-addiction clinics,” it said.
The meeting was attended by Delhi Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Commissioner of Police and Secretary (Social Welfare), among others.

Following this, Nicolle Verma distributed essential items to the attendants and also handed out fruits. She became emotional remembering her grandmother on her birth anniversary.
On this occasion, she also inaugurated the “Veena Verma Sevalaya” in memory of her grandmother, Veena Verma, to serve the attendants. She expressed, “I feel proud that my family is engaged in nation-building as well as social service. Today, in collaboration with Vijay Shree Foundation founder Foodman Vishal Singh Ji, I feel immensely proud to dedicate this shelter for the poor, helpless, and needy attendants of patients battling serious illnesses like cancer. I am honored to be associated with the Hunger-Free World Mission for humanity.”
Inspired by the continuous humanitarian service provided by Vijay Shree Foundation over the past 17 years, Nicolle Verma donated 10 lakh rupees to support the cause. The purpose of this donation is to ensure that services continue for the needy attendants of patients suffering from severe illnesses in hospitals, as facilitated by Foodman Vishal Singh.
