Bengaluru, Dec 11 (IANS) Global software major Wipro on Tuesday opened an innovation centre at Detroit in the US to develop new technologies and solutions for automobile makers and their suppliers.

“The technology hub will strengthen our relationship with Detroit’s automotive community, develop and showcase new technologies and solutions for automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), tier-I suppliers, insurers, technology firms and others,” said the city-based IT behemoth in a statement here.

In 2017, the company opened an automotive engineering centre at Detroit and leveraged local talent for the design, development and validation of automotive cockpit electronic products such as navigation systems, connectivity systems, instrument clusters, head-up displays, advanced safety systems, vehicle diagnostics and advanced analytics.

The centre will develop solutions to leverage artificial intelligence, analytics, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), cloud and crowdsourcing.

The hub will evangelise connected vehicle technologies with in-vehicle human machine interface (HMI), on-board sensor data management, big data insights and end-user mobile apps for delivering personalised driving/mobility experiences.

“The convergence of automotive and digital tech creates a new ecosystem that will drive the rules of success for manufacturers and suppliers,” said Wipro president for marketing, innovation and technology Milan Rao in the statement.

The center will serve as a hub where automotive manufacturers, technology partners, auto industry forums and analysts can collaborate on disruptive ideas.

“The automotive industry is in the midst of transformative phase with opportunities for technology and manufacturers to foster innovation and create user experience,” said Wipro vice-president for industrial and engineering business Harmeet Chauhan.

The centre also highlights the significance of Detroit as a hub for collaboration with customers and the reskilling of the automotive engineering workforce as the demand for software and software engineering related services surges.

With over two decades of experience in engineering and developing solutions for the automotive industry, Wipro is poised to enable innovation locally and address its clients’ time to market challenges.

“The core product, customer experiences across the product ownership lifecycle and business models in the industry are at the cusp of a transformation,” said Wipro global head for automotive business Alex Beylin in the statement.
