Italy striker Osvaldo leads Boca romp in Copa Libertadores
Buenos Aires: On-loan striker Daniel Osvaldo scored twice as six-time champions Boca Juniors defeated Zamora 5-0 in their Copa Libertadores group match.
The Italy international, on loan from Southampton, struck from close range in Wednesday’s match after Federico Carrizo’s headed cross. He then converted a penalty nine minutes from time after he was brought down by Alvaro Forero, reported Xinhua.
Earlier, Marcelo Meli, Nicolas Lodeiro and Federico Carrizo hit the target as the hosts effectively ended the match at halftime.
The result at the Bombonera lifts the Argentine outfit three points clear at the top of Group 5 with three wins from as many matches. Venezuela’s Zamora are last, having yet to secure a point.
After the match Osvaldo bemoaned a series of missed scoring chances in the first half.
“We played a fantastic game but with all the goals that I missed I’m surprised that I’ve been named man of the match,” the forward said.
In other matches on Wednesday, Mexico’s Tigres won 1-0 against Bolivia’s San Jose and Colombia’s Atletico Nacional beat Ecuador’s Barcelona 2-1.

Sunil Gavaskar gives his opinion of GT allrounder Rahul Tewatia
The left-handed batsman from Haryana is garnering praise from all quarters for the way he’s finishing games regularly in the most exciting IPL season.
Gavaskar reckons Tewatia’s whirlwind knock in Sharjah (in IPL 2020) where he smashed West Indies pacer Sheldon Cottrell for five sixes in an over, gave him the confidence that he belongs to the big stage.
Speaking on Cricket Live on Star Sports, Gavaskar said, “That assault on Sheldon Cottrell in Sharjah gave him the belief to do the impossible and the confidence that he belongs here. We saw the impossible (he did with the bat) the other day as well. There’s no twitching or touching the pads (which shows a batter’s nervousness) when he bats in the death overs. He just waits for the ball to be delivered and plays his shots. He’s got all the shots in the book, but most importantly his temperament to stay cool in a crisis is brilliant.”
Gavaskar has also nicknamed the 28-year-old cricketer the ‘ice-man’ and lauded Tewatia’s ability to remain unruffled during the tense moments.
