Supercar Lamborghini to be fully electrified by 2024: Read here
In a series of far-reaching announcements, Lamborghini has committed to launching its first hybrid series production model by 2023. This will be followed by complete electrification of its line-up by 2024. Following this, the first fully electric Lamborghini will come to market in the second half of this decade. Lamborghini is calling this move towards increased sustainability “Direzione Cor Tauri” after the brightest star in the Taurus constellation, Cor Tauri. This constellation was interpreted into the Lamborgini logo by founder Ferrucio Lamborghini. Notably, the EV will not be a replacement for any current model line but will be a completely new model line joining the SUV, V10, V12 line-ups.
The initial aim of this strategy is to reduce Lamborghini’s carbon emissions by 50 per cent by 2024 through a EUR 1.5 billion investment over the next four years. The carmaker will also look for ways to reduce carbon emissions in its supply chain and other daily operation in this period, the Sant Agata facility having already achieved carbon neutrality in 2015. Before the first hybrid Lamborghini debuts in 2023, Lamborghini will launch two new V12 models that highlight the brand’s combustion engine heritage and takes inspiration from its best-remembered models. For the hybrid models that follow, new techniques and increased use of carbon fibre will compensate for the added weight of the electrical components.
